Time for a GFX upgrade.
Simple question really. I have £300 to spend on a GFX card, what should I get?
I have been looking at the 9800 Pro's but there are so many makes to go for. I used al ways go for Hercules cards because they used to be the best, is this still the case or are you just paying for the name now? |

hmmm i couldn't be sure..... that particular card is going for £300 this week at ocuk....
however you can get the connect 3D card for cheaper than this now.... I will recoment the 128meg versions of the 9800pro over the 256 ones as there simply isn't enough gain with the later to justify its cost ![]() plus the 128 will clock just as high as what the 256 will reach ![]() My recomendation therfor is the Connect 3D 9800pro... This thing has helped me over the 20k barrier in 3DMark2001SE with its stock cooling ![]() Should get for £280 or less....... |

Get a Sapphire one if you can, or Hercules. Very well regarded manufacturers.

For the top cards manu makes VERY little diff. Look more to bundles and price etc. Rad9800 are fine if you can do a little o/c'ing, still WAY faster than anything can actually use. As said 256MB is pointless, by the time it's truly useful the 9800PRO will be like the GF-FX5200 is now (MHO).

This connect 3D is superb ![]() You might as well save money and go for this bundle. The other brands up the price by including some dodgy batch of old DX7 games.... The connect 3D comes just with what you need
More than enough ![]() EDIT: should get one to you for around the £280 mark ![]() That means you can get a round or 2 in at the pub with the rest with your savings

![]() (had to show it off again!) Ive heard a few people not managing this with hercules... Plus putting the omega drivers on it can be a bit of a fuss.. :/ Still, if you want the hercules... it will be a great bit of kit for you

AFAIK the connect3d ones are just ATI ones. On the 9700pros they even had the ATI stickers on the fan. The Sapphire plant that makes the graphics cards also makes the ATI ones, so the chances are that you will be getting a Sapphire manufactured graphics card under a different name.
