I can give you the comment from a friend using the SM225BW.

Brilliant, pin sharp, not over bright, no ghosting in action movie sequences and gaming is good.

He has only just started using this so his enthusiasm is perhaps a little overstated, he has just up graded from a 19 inch 4£ monitor.

He appears very happy with it though.

They aren't hating it. What they are hating is the Samsung panel lottery.

Initially the 226 had a "S" derivation (made in Japan) at the back and this got rave reviews all over, everyone loved it, it won numerous awards and sold like hot cakes. Then Samsung had a plant in Slovakia start making the panels which were labelled "A" on the sticker on the back of the monitor. Out of the box the A panel was ghastly, it needed to be calibrated before it looked good and once it was calibrated it was equal in picture quality to the S. Then Samsung had panels manufactured in China to keep up with demand and these had I think a C derivation and were poor. Then Samsung decided that too many people were moaning about the S v A (v C) so they decided to not put it on the sticker at the back and change the numbers in the service menu so you couldn't tell what monitor you had.

If you want to know about this monitor then go to HardForum for the 112 page thread. - go here for some links to some ICC profiles (half way down the page) and a review of the C panel by a bloke who makes his own colour profiles.

A expert review and explanationhere including how to do the colour profile thingamajig.

At the time I was deciding on getting the 20" version 206BW I investigated this thoroughly. I got an A panel and it was bad out of the box. Severe blue dominance but I did a bit of work calibrating it and used an ICC profile. It looks very good, gaming is fine. If I hated it it would have gone back.

    Re: Samsung 22'' monitors ?

I have the 226BW, it's been the best monitor I've ever had (I've had the following: IBM T 18.1", DELL 2005FPW 20", DELL 2407WFP 24", and an LG 204T 20") which shows I'm quite fussy!

I happened to get an 'S' panel which is the best as you don't need to worry about profiles (even though if you do video/ photo editing you should with any monitor!)

If you'd like any further info or pics/ angle shots let me know and I'll take some

    Re: Samsung 22'' monitors ?

It doesn't have height adjusting, or that silly one where you can make the monitor portrait!

It's removable though and has the standard fixings on the back. I have an Eizo stand, but I didn't feel the need to change it with this desk as it has a shelf for the monitor.

    Re: Samsung 22'' monitors ?

The new SAMSUNG 226CW is now out. Apparently no panel lottery on this like the older 226BW it replaces.
