    Viewsonic VX2640w?

    Hi

Was thinking about a 24" screen, but seeing the price of the Viewsonic VX2640w, and with an apparently decent spec (TN panel aside), i've been looking in vain, for any reviews on the net. Just wondering if anyone else has one of these, and can give an opinion on black levels, backlight bleed etc. Or maybe someone has spotted a review somewhere.

There is one of these available at Costco. And because they have a good return policy I might just have to check it out myself. The catch is that they also have a 32" Plasma HDTV for a bit more. And now I'm trying to decide what to get.

I personally wanted to use the Viewsonic with a computer and an Xbox 360. So one of the things I checked was the scaling on this display. The menu indicates that it will scale to a true 16:9 aspect ratio. One would just hope that black areas would not "feature" an excessive amount of back-light bleed. The display model looked fine! But it was connected via a VGA cable.

    Hi Cannyone

How much was it there (inc or ex vat), and what is their returns policy? - i might have to investigate this myself (soon as i can find someone with a costco account :-))

The price was $439, though it doesn't seem to be available online, or even at all stores. Costco is a Warehouse store, which requires a membership. Their return policy is 90 days, no questions asked. But it sounds like you're on the other side of the pond - so I'm not sure what you could work out.

I eventually decided on a different display personally. I did check and the Viewsonic does have a 1:1 pixel mapping feature in it's menu. I'm not sure that means it's active and working for all inputs. In my opinion the stand on the Viewsonic looks really cheap. And I wish it was 27.5" instead of just 25.5".

I decided to stick with my current Samsung 245BW (which I also bought at Costco). I've decided that I just need to save up some money so I can get a Gateway 30". However, since I wanted a larger display to use with my Xbox 360, I decided to try a Visio 32" plasma. It seems that many of plasma's earlier deficiencies have been greatly improved. And it has some natural advantages, like speed (response times are around 0.002ms). Though other issues like "image retention" still remain.

    Re: Viewsonic VX2640w?

Thanks for the info Cannyone. I'm upgrading from a Samsung 19" LCD, so a 26" screen would definetly be large enough for me. Actually, since posting here, i have tried a friend's 24" screen on my desk, and that would be plenty for me as well (as i sit directly infront of it, and as close as in an office environment). With that in mind i;ve also added an Hyundai W240D-PVA to the shortlist.

I dont know if Costco have the same no-quibble 90 day return policy here, but i will endevour to find out. I would hate to be stuck with a lemon of a screen. We do have ahigh-street outlet called 'Argos', who do a no quibble returns policy, but sadly, only really 22" screens available there. I want to avoid buying a screen 'blind' if at all possible.
