    ATI CATALYST problem

    Hello,

Whenever I make any changes to Catalyst to improve performance and detail it reverts back to default settings when I play any games, say for example, I change all the settings and put up everthing up to High Quailty save the changes play a game... Say for exaple, FALLOUT 3 the graphics are what can only be best stated as being cr**, blotchy jagged edges and really poor performance. I stop the game and check the settings I made chages to which I know for a fact the card can handle and they are all reverted back to default, "use hardware". I put everything up high play a game and it reverts everything back to default? Why does it do this...? Does anybody know why this happens because it annoys the cr** out of me.

I have used ATI and NVIDIA over the years and Catalyst drivers are the worst for not keeping the settings you changed within the drivers themselves, how can I make the changes I have applied to stay what I want them to be. Before you say make the chages within the game it does not make a difference to performance or details. I have always experienced this with ATI and their drivers not keeping the changes you make to the settings to make the performanc and quaility better.

I think I know what might be causing the issue here, am I correct in saying if the game does not go any higher than 4, 8 and 16 AA or 4, 8 and 16 AAA and only excepts 4 AA then Catalyst will default back to it's factory state, in other words Default State. Therefore I'm going to try AA 4 and 8 AAA and see what the changes are. If this works then my above theory is correct.

Could be a problem with the actual game if you only have it with fallout 3. Reinstalled drivers? Checked other games?

It all depends on the game engine Dunia and CryEngine2 are great, Half Life 2 Source COD4 are all great Fallot 3 and FEAR2 are just blo*** dreadful, blocky as he** and looks cr** Fallout 3 used Oblivion 4 Engine instead of Oblivion 5 engine which in my view was a bad move because Oblivion 5 Engine was great.

My main issue is I whatever changes I make to AA AAA AI QUALITY when playing the game the drivers revert to default instead of using the settings I changed to. Does not make any difference in reinstalling... No change still the same.

I'm not sure your theory is correct about games not supporting higher AA.

Since uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers/CCC didn't work you could try ditching the CCC and using ATI Tray Tools instead. I prefer it anyway.

Could also be something like AV software blocking editing of the registry. CCC uses the .Net framework, so you could try uninstalling/reinstalling that too.

I already thought of that one. CODMW2 and COD4MW CRYSIS HL2 all have excellent graphics, although granted the engines on these are just awesome. but Fallout three will not keep the settings for some reason not sure the reason behind this but, nothing is being blocked.

Well CODMW2 is here now and the graphics on this is just awesome.
