Question TFT TV addon boxs any good?

I noticed that scan.co.uk have the Avermedia TV Box 9 on special http://www.scan.co.uk/products/produ...oductID=140614
Is this any good or addon boxes in general?

Looks alright. The only thing about TFTs is that the picture quality from a normal analogue TV source is pap. It does say that the box uses deinterlacing, etc etc and can produce a high-res picture, but I don't know how good it would be.

Certainly looks interesting....if you buy one, can you post some pics/review?

The other alternative is to buy a digital TV card - you can get these for under £100 and the picture quality should be a lot better.

Yeah, thats one option, but I don't have a PCI free (Soltek Qbic) I suppose I could get a Nebula USB2. Another option would be an analogue to firewire converter as those ports are free on my PC.

Ideally I'd buy a dedicated replacement for my TV (old 20" goldfish Goodmans) and TFT (17"). Like a Hyundai L19T, Iiyama C480T or Samsung 730MP. I'm not really made of money tho.

Its just a thought, I have just enough space in my room now, I'm trying to reduce the amount of stuff in it. I've chucked alot of stuff out (I have a spare AVGS Cybercool if anyone in the Dunfermline/Fife area wants it for a tenner). I was just interested if anyone had ever used a tv addon box?

I've ordered up an XGA box from Lik-sang.com, I'm going to see what it's like.
I will report in once I get it.

Personally its an either or thing for me, I don't like trying to watch the TV and work my PC. As for quality we will wait and see.

    OK got it.
First impressions, its good for the money.
PROs: Cheap, does what it says, doesn't seem to degrade the vga passthrough, fast so no lag in games and comes with a UK plug.
Cons: really needs a TFT as its 60hz only, your realise how bad video signals are, the svideo/composite switch is a tiny dip switch, doesn't decode rgb over svideo

I bought it with a cheap multi console svideo adapter and that seemed to be great (gold plated plugs)
I paid £40 for the two with delivery, so all told it would be around £32 for just the box and delivery. Very cheap if you want a little occasional use box.
