9600 pro verses 5900xt?

I would choose the 9600 Pro over the 5900XT just due to the fact that the 5900XT has some problems rendering Direct X9 in some games, well the whole FX series have problems with Direct X9 in certain games. So if I were to choose one from those two I would select the 9600 Pro. But generally speaking the 5900XT is better.

if not then get a 9700pro as they can be had for £70+p&p

9600Pro. It can play HL2 at decent framerates in DX9 unlike the 5900XT. tbh I'd stear clear of all the Nvidia 5xxx series.

theres only 1 game in which the 9600pro is better than the 5900xt, and that is halflife 2, every other game the 5900xt wins, so i would have to say 5900xt.

if ur looking for a new card ur better going for the new gen, such as the x800se, and 6800le, both of which r cheap and can be modded, with luck, to 12 or 16 pixel pipelines.

Thanks for the info guys. I had the choice of either /or 2nd hand (and as it happens I missed the 9600 anyway!). I have been trying to pick up a 9700 pro but it seems I am just not quick enough! they are always sold by the time I see them. Still I have bought the 5900 now so I'll see how good it is... its got to be better than my 9200 se!
