    Advice on the buying a Tv tuner cum graphics card.

    I wish to buy a good TV tuner card but was adviced to go for one in-built with a graphics card for better resolution. Is it true that a T.V tuner card will not have good resolution all by itself. Please advice.

    I have a P-3 800 Mhz, intel 810E mobo,256 Mb RAM, 20 GB HDD.

    i dont believe its true....

    i used to have a 5700LE personal cinema - great TV signal, just a shame the forceware software has too many bugs/niggles etc in it - and the gfx was underpowered.
    upgraded gfx card to 6600GT and got a nebula freeview PCI card - which looks even better than the 5700LE
    the moral - the TV reception will be as good its made, not due to whether its incorperated into to gfx card or not

    (pls anyone correct me if im wrong)

    actually i believe stand alone tv tuners are better. since they are specially designed to be just that tv tuners, when you buy a gfx card and tv tuners they cut corners to amke the price better. a good stand alone tv tuner costs 40-200 dollras depending if u want hd tv, special features etc...

    I agree. Where else would I be able to have a PCI-E based 6800GT coupled with a Freeview tuner so I can watch BBC3 when not playing WoW or playing CS. You will also get more functionality from a seperate TV card.

    teh aiw series is good but when i had my 9700 aiw teh video input was very fuzzy, i dont know about the latest aiw series but the 9700 wasnt good. its not at all bad but for shelling out 400+ dollars (usa) youd expect a clearer image. video soap does help but you cnat use it one live t.v. after the grainy images of my 9700 aiw i traded it in for a regular 9700 :-)

    O.K, say I am going to buy a T.V tuner card only, then what are the feature or specs to look out for. How are the Pinnacle and Pixelview cards. I am seeing them a lot in the market nowadays.

    <Hexites: Engage spin defences>

    From what I can gather, there is a mighty piece of technology coming into this market space VERY soon

    Rumour has it that this new technology will be using a very long ladder to 'up the performance bar'

    With any luck, HEXUS Labs will be spilling the Beanz any day now

    Pick up a second hand Hercules 9800SE AIW for ~£60 and softmod it to a full 9800 pro!

    I've had mine for over a year and it ******* rocks.

    Unless they've upgraded it mightily in the last few months, the Pinnacle software is balls beyond belief... They just don't seem to care about it!
