    9800 Pro, X700 Pro, 6600GT

Right then, where abouts does the X700 Pro come with regards to the 9800 Pro and 6600GT? I would guess faster than the 9800 Pro, but slower than the 6600GT, but would like your ideas as well.

For those of you thinking that it is quite a low end card to get right now, it's serving more as a stopgap than anything else - I'll be happy so long as it plays X3: The Reunion.

    Thanks

    Mike

How much is that costing, or have you already got it?

Edit, also is it 128mb (i assume so) or 256mb?

The X700 Pro should sit between the 9800pro and the 6600GT

Thanks for the replies; in this case, I'm looking at a X700 Pro 128MB for £90.

bad idea, x700 pro is a pretty poor card. The x800gt or 6600gt would be a better bet even as a stop gap, only #20 more but 30% more performance.

If the X800GT was on AGP, I would buy it straight away - sadly, I wasn't aware that it was being released on AGP.

As for the 6600GT - generally, I've found the extra cost is roughtly proportional to the extra performance, so the X700 Pro is still a good value card.

I know there is an AGP version of the X700 but wasn’t there supposed to be up to three different versions of the X700 chip in the X700 family?

Just to be sure, what version chip does your intended AGP X700 card have?

Apologies, didn't realise it was for agp. You can get a 6600gt for #105 these days, probably much cheaper on ebay say #90. I just don't trust the x700 pro as it was such an underpowered card that ati have more or less dumped it...

I think there is the plain X700 and an X700 Pro, both in 128MB and 256MB versions. The X700XT never appeared.

I intend to get an Gecube X700 Pro 128MB. This one.

I have an ATI X700 Pro PCIe card but I didn’t use it for long.

I bought it from shop.ati.com for $150 (USA) but I had a $50 off code and about another $50 in rebates that just came in. So essentially, I paid ~$50 for my X700 Pro because the S&H was free.

I didn’t much care for the performance though so I went and bought an X800XL,….which is actually pretty good.

Personally, I would advise against the X700 family even as a stop-gap solution.

My sister-in-law has been selling things on her web page and I might cut her in for part of the profit if she sells my X700 for me,…

Then again, I have an HP m1070n MCE PC with a lowly X300SE in it,….

Sure the X700 Pro is better then the X300SE but the fan on the X700 is loud and I could use the money on a new X800GT or X800XL.

BTW, I recently came across an ATI factory refurbished AGP X800XT PE with 3yr warranty for about ~$200 on shop.ati.com (think it was ~$200). That deal is long gone but keep in mind that sometimes it pays to wait.
