You realise that due to the modular nature of PCI-E (i.e. the lanes) this would work, IF he wasn't probably trying to stick it into AGP ![]() JCBeastie Pity the fool " "

Funny as this photoshop is, in fact if you cut those connectors off it would probably still work fine assuming you hadn't knackered the rest of the card while doing the cutting. You'd just get fewer than 16 PCI-E lanes- which works fine, as those demonstrations of 6800s in a 16x + 4x SLI config proved. www.no2id.net www.saynoto0870.com www.housepricecrash.co.uk Now these points of data make a beautiful line, and we're out of beta we're releasing on time....

You'd have to get the cut absolutely perfect and then cut only data and not power. Wouldn't the card get confused if it work up with only 9 PCIe lanes or such though? Anyone fancy sacrificing a 6200 and trying this out for real?

You don't need to sacrifice anything. Unfortunately I can't find the original article but it was at Tomshardware; they taped off (using masking tape) the connectors responsible for designating the speed of the PCI-e connection on a 6800 Ultra to test its affect on performance, it even went down as low as 1x. They decided 4x was all that was really needed. On that card (if it is real, and it doesn't look it), there's at least 8x left on it (cos the pins start from left to right), but you need to cut it down to 8x (not ideal) or tape off the other unneeded ones (better).
