    Radeon 9600 Pro Question

I currently have a GF4 TI4600 and was thinking of upgrading to the radeon 9600 Pro seeing as there a good view games coming out that will look nicer with a dx9 hardware based card.

will i see a proformance increase moving to the Rad 9600 pro?

also how much do you reckon i could flog the TI4600 for?

    Cheers

    Athlon XP 2600+ 333FSB
    512MB Twinmos PC3200

lol if I was you, I would keep the TI4600 man. If you really want to get the Dx9 then get Rad 9700/9800p's or Nvidia 5800/5900 ultras.

It aint faster.....you might notice an improvement in benchmarks like 3d Mark 2003 that use DX9 but thats about it.

If I was you I'd keep that puppy in my machine for a while yet....selling it and "upgrading2 to a 9600Pro would cut it.

    A 9800 however.....

    No ,......my £0.02 ...keep it

    BETTER NEVER STOPS

Surely that should tide you over until ati and nvidia next gen cards arrive. I have a tnt2 and as such intend to purchase a 9600pro at the nearest oppurtunity.

Unless you playing DX9 games like UT2003 or SimCity4, etc, your Ti4600 should be good enough for the time being.

And yet... Even with your current card having no dx9 compatiblities... It might even perform dx9 games better then the Rad 9600!

yup no point in gettin a new card, yours is more than good enough

when HL2 is out then you should get a FX5900ultra 256meg, should be affordable by then and it will still wipe the floor with anything ati can offer

    Mac Pro, 2x Quad core 2.8ghz Xeon, 512mb 8800GT, 512mb 8500GT, 4gb DDR2 FB-Dimm
    HP Touchsmart TX2
HTC Touch Pro on EnergyROM with HTC Sense 2.5 (MaxManilla)

do i smell......oh yeah thats it..... a fanboy

    only jokin

saving your money and waiting for the next gen cards is the best bet imo, unless you REALLY like benchmarks that is.

    UT2003 isn't DX9, nor is SimCity 4.
There is only one DX 9 game out. Gun metal.

And keep your 4600, pointless changing.

Its also suspected HL2 will be optimised for the FX series as the developers have a good relationship with Nvidia, so it is based on common sense and not just fanboyism.
If you goto the Nvidia site now, you can see the HL2 subsection.

optimise it yeah, make it impossible to run on ati cards? i doubt it, i doubt it even more highly that it'll wipe the floor with anything ati have to offer, beat it maybe but nout wipe the floor with it.

I believe you'll find that SWG and Planetside require DirectX9. I think only Planetside uses some of the DX9 features though.
