    mini displayport to displayport cable

Finally I go eyefinity with 3 x Dell 2311H but im dreading over the cable. The monitors have displayport but no hdmi while the HD 6950 has mini displayport and hdmi. I can not find any mini displayport to displayport cable, only see adaptors.

    Any advice on the matter?

    Cheers

Re: mini displayport to displayport cable

I'd have thought your 6950 would come with at least one mini>full DP adaptor.

If not, the adaptor is £10 and a cable is like £5.. :/

You can use the DVI cables that came with the U2311Hs for the other two...

Re: mini displayport to displayport cable

Nope, unbox it. It has only the card and installation disc with 2 docs. Now I need to buy cables, preferable mini displayport to displayport. But any cable let me do eyefinity will do me. Where you got your cable Reprssor?

    Will this one work? http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com...7266787&sr=1-3

That should work fine and if not you can always send it back.

Re: mini displayport to displayport cable

My two 6870's came with a mini display port to display port adapter as well as a display port cable.

To run my three monitors, I have two using display port and one using dvi.

Re: mini displayport to displayport cable

my 6870s didn't come with an adapter and it tooks 3 days to get a bloody cable because only one of the DVI ports was dual link.

so to get dual link on two monitors you have to use mini-displayport.

Re: mini displayport to displayport cable

    Thx guys!

Some people says that cable doesn't work for them. So I been looking for an alternative like this one here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...&pf_rd_i=typ01

Its mini DP to DVI. I have an amazon voucher so I just want a quality cable. And that one offers saturday delivery too. I can't wait!

Re: mini displayport to displayport cable

cd_rom, just a note of caution - I ordered something similar to that - this one to be precise:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ef=oss_product

to use with my Dell laptop with mini-dp out. Well, it barely works - the monitor detection is iffy, when it does work I get screen corruption, it regularly drops out, and the box part of the adapter with the DVI female socket in gets VERY hot.
I emailed HDCentral (the sellers via Amazon Marketplace) about this and they just said it was because it was designed for Apple and offered nothing further on it.

So the morale of the tale - you may need to beware of stuff advertised as for Apple kit if not using it on Apple kit. Or perhaps I just have a faulty one and they wriggled out of giving me a replacement.

Thanks for that Caesium. But it does say PC with mini DP near the end so I hope nothing will happen.

Re: mini displayport to displayport cable

I'd be interested to know if it works well for you actually, then I'll have some idea of whether their claim that these adapters are for Apple only holds any water.

AHHHHHHHH! Im so disappointed . I can't display all 3 screens, it says "unable to save display setting" ...

OK, I give up. If you use eyefinity, what adaptor and cable do you use?!

CDROM: off topic a bit - did you get all 3 U2311h's at once? I bought one then the other a week later this month and can't get the screens to match colours no matter what I do. Was there much difference between your three, as I assume you purchased them at once?

I already got one before from Scan at retail price but I decided to get 2 more and go eyefinity as I always wanted it and the monitors were on sale also.

About the colours, they all looks similar to me, except that one of the screen when display white colour a bit milky (or less white) even though I played with the monitor setting a bit. Mind you, my eyes are not that good anyway lol, already booked an eye test in March!

Re: mini displayport to displayport cable

Have a play with a program called ultramon (I believe they offer a trial). Well worth the money when using 3 monitors as it gives your the option of where you want your main taskbar, if you want seperate task bars for each monitor, various wallpaper and screensaver options and my favorite, a button on each window to give you an option to send it to different monitors. Saves a lot of dragging.
