    What ?
I must admit to being a tad cynical over a leaked slide that shows 40% better than a 7970, which would make a ~60% increase on a 580 ?
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

The 'data' for that chart came out a while ago, before cards were even circulated, so it's very, very suspect. The interesting data will be leaks generated since monday, when actual cards are being circulated for reviews etc. By reformatting old data into a nice looking chart and releasing after Monday someone is attempting to appear knowledgeable but actually they just look silly.

The GT640M when compared to the previous GT540M is a very large improvement in performance.

The M14X is a standard 14" performance laptop whereas the Acer tested is at the higher end of the UltraBook scale in size.

Dawn of War 2 is quite CPU limited and the Acer uses a 1.6GHZ Core i5 dual core and PC Perspective used a 2.3GHZ Core i7 quad core in their M14X review.

In two of the DX11 benchmarks,ie, 3DMark11 and BF3,the GT640M scored higher than a GT555M with a much faster CPU,and in Just Cause 2 which is also DX11 the scores are very close together(the GT640M is only around 6% slower),and this is with much lower memory bandwidth too.

The main issue is the temperature of the GPU which could be down to not enough cooling due to the slim chassis Acer is using.

Re: Anyone Know When The Next Gen Nvidia Cards Are Being Released

The GT640M with DDR3 is faster than the HD7690M with GDDR5:

    http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Mobile/...rmance-Verdict

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-...2.69822.0.html

The HD7690M is basically an underclocked desktop HD6670 GDDR5 with a 10% lower core clock.

    Edit!!

Anandtech has a preview up too:

Gibbo over at OcUK has confirmed that stock is arriving next week and that the card will match HD7970 prices.

So the cards will be £15 cheaper at Aria then?

Same price hints at similar performance. If it was a world-beater they'd charge accordingly.

Yeah, that or they think they'll be forcing a 7970 price drop so just making themselves at home.

Another picture of the GK104 PCB and supposedly it is 25% faster than an HD7970:

Nvidia is releasing another form of AA with Kepler supposedly:

Re: Anyone Know When The Next Gen Nvidia Cards Are Being Released

With launch drivers according to HC,the HD7970 3GB is around 41% faster than an HD6970 2GB:

    http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...review-25.html

According to one of the links in post 204,the GTX680 is supposedly 25% faster than an HD7970 3GB. If this is true, this would mean the GTX680 is around 36% faster than a GTX580 if HC numbers are used.

If the GTX680 is less than 35% to 40% faster than a GTX580 it would actually be less of a generational jump than between the HD6970 and HD7970 and hopefully this is not the case.

Hopefully,it isn't because at least it means the HD7900 series and hence the HD7800 series will drop in price.

Re: Anyone Know When The Next Gen Nvidia Cards Are Being Released

I'm not trying to sound like an N-bot, but surely the generational jump includes both sides, so the GTX 680 would be more of a generational jump than the 7970 compared to both the 6970 and GTX 580 - anyway?

Edit: I do get what you're saying though.

Some sources are saying it is only slightly faster than an HD7970 and yet many GTX580 owners slate the HD7970 for not being a large enough increase over the GTX580 which would be under 30% then. If the GTX680 is around 40% faster overall than a GTX580,then it would at least match the HD4890 to HD5870,HD6970 to HD7970 and GTX280 to GTX480 performance jumps.
