Re: Anyone Know When The Next Gen Nvidia Cards Are Being Released

So general consensus - faster overall at 1920X1080 and at higher resolution they traded blows and power consumption is quite decent too.

Looks, like AMD will need to reduce the HD7970 price, going by the 1920X1080 results alone.

    Edit!!

It seems the core clock can hit around 1264MHZ at certain times too.

So, you want to argue that a 7970 is better then a 680? Even though the 680 is faster, draws less power and costs the same?

    Fill your boots.

In the meantime I will wait for a card that gives me 60FPS @ 1600p Ultra settings.

As for GK110 being "next gen" - it doesn't have to be...it could just be another release in this line.

Eventually. Can't blame shops for taking advantage of die-hard fans who MUST have it right now.

I'm no better off than I was yesterday. Do I get a 2GB card that's a bit faster, or a 3GB card that's a bit slower and has slightly less options (PhysX). Does PhysX even matter?!

They're both basically the same price.

Third option. Wait two weeks and see if AMD cuts the HD7900 series prices,if not get a GTX680 then.

So you're basically saying the 680 is the better card, and the 7970 could be more viable if it was less money?

No, PhysX doesn't matter. Unless you have a specific case where you must have it.

    So ask yourself:
Do you need a 3GB card?
    Do you need PhysX?
Do you need faster frame rates?
    Do you need compute?

With the answers to those you can make an informed choice.

    This is my opinion:

At high resolution they trade blows(some reviews place the GTX680 as being a tad better and others the HD7970). Overclocked, the HD7970 3GB edges the GTX680 at high resolution from what I gather.

Of course it depends on exactly what games you play.

At 1920X1080 then GTX680 is better overall.

The question is this though. An HD7950 3GB can be had for £314 delivered from Amazon and even the HD7970 3GB can be had for around £390 to £400.

Currently,GTX680 cards are around £420 for the cheapest model:

    http://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/...-availability/

Now with the GTX680 out, these prices will probably drop further(I hope). So,if you keep your eye open, you might get a good deal. Also, don't forget GTX580 cards can be had for under £300 too,and we don't know if the initial GTX680 prices will also drop too(technically the cheapest GTX680 cards would be around £380 if the US price and VAT were added).
