Performace Difference Between an Intel G530 & G620 CPU On-Board Graphics?

Now I'm looking at finishing a rebuild but have come stuck at the CPU, well the system is already up and running but its only used for browsing etc, no gaming (apart from the niece going on CBeebies I think).

Its got a Core i3 2100 in it but I was thinking of replacing it with say a Celeron G530 or a Pentium G620. I currently have a G620 CPU running in another rig and know its a fine CPU even using the on-board GPU which now brings me to a dilemma!

The Celeron G530 sells more almost £15 less than a G620, so:
Whats the overall speed difference between this and the G620?
Whats the difference in terms of the graphics capabilities between the G530 and G620?

As I'm leaning towards the G530 but don't want to find out later that I should have gone with the G620 over it as that would have handled video better!

    Thanks.

Here is a review of the G540:

TBH,the G530 should do the job IMHO. I assume you are repurposing the Core i3 2100 for another build??

How many computers do you have!!??

I built a G530 system for my kid (4gb + Asus P8H61M-LE/USB3 ) and it's just great. This Celeron is very snappy and more than enough for Cbeebies,iPlayer or flash games. The integrated graphic can even handle Age of Empire III with decent amount of details at 1680x1050.

Thanks for the links, see its not too far behind a G620 overall, so it'll do.

Am looking to re-use the Core i3 in another rig.

    Thanks mate.

As above, though it seems I could do with one as a mates looking for a replacement for an ageing rig!

Me - 2, use to have 3 but dismantled that as I couldn't figure out how that came about LOL.

One use to be a powerhouse of rig even though it was a HTPC but its since been tamed with a G620. Have rebuilt a few of the siblings rigs over the last year and a bit, well since SB came about, needed the upgrades on the 5 year old rigs hence the builds/wants!

Exactly what its going to be used for, plus the odd watching of DVD's.

What level of gaming is being done on the computer?? Something like an AMD A4 or A6 would be more than enough for web browsing, but the IGP is much better than the Intel ones.

Well light gaming, he'll be using a HD6850, has that already, the motherboard, I owe him a favour, so he'll have that for nothing, so that actually leaves us with Intel as the board is a H67 one.

    Thanks again CAT.

Hope you are taking care of that chip...
I personally view a 6850 as 'high end' but then I never would consider spending anything like £200 on a graphics card.

Then again, I also dont think a loaf of bread should be over a pound, and tinned tomatoes more than 50p.... :/

    Not by much though!!

Anything like a GTX460 1GB or HD6850 1GB is a mainstream gaming card, and the HD6770,HD6750 and GTS450 are lower end mainstream cards. They are made for gaming and also require a reasonable quality PSU.

I consider bus powered cards under £70 as light gaming cards,ie, cards like the HD6670 and GT440. They have low power consumption and hence can be used in many systems.

    Hi mate!

Yes sir LOL, as I said that was for a sibling, so is serving its purpose very well hence the interest in buying another!

In regards to the GPU, I think I might not have been very clear - "light" as in occasional gaming, not in terms of the GPU performance.

Edit: Quite agree on the price of a loaf of bread, not sure on the tinned tomatoes as I don't like them LOL but I understand your point....:/

    Thanks.

CAT, as I've said to MSIC, I might have been misunderstood in regards to the gaming side, I agree with what you're saying in terms of the GPU performance and the HD6850 is a mainstream card.

    Thanks.
