    The GK107 based GT640 tested.

    The HD7750 GDDR5 seems to beat the pre-overclocked GT640 DDR3 version tested:

    http://translate.googleusercontent.c...7SXJX97g#para8

The card also has turbo boost too. The base clockspeed is 902MHZ,although the Galaxy GT640 tested has a 100MHZ overclock but uses DDR3. Power consumption of the pre-overclocked card and the HD7750 looks similar. It will be interesting to see how much faster a GDDR5 version would be,when tested, although power consumption might be higher than the equivalent DDR3/GDDR3 cards.

It seems the GK107 is slightly bigger(130MM2) than the Cape Verde GPU(123MM2) found in the HD7750(800MHZ core clock in the card tested) and HD7770. I suspect especially with the HD7750 getting a bump in clockspeed from 800MHZ to 900MHZ now,it should be quite competitive still with the GDDR5 version of the GT640.

OTH,pricing is the other important factor too.

    Edit!!

Official figures seem to indicate that the GPU is 118MM2 and has 1.3 billion transistors.

awesome find =- `tut tut` nivida for naming 3 cards the same - the `interesting` one IMO is the GDDR5 - but this is an awesome find!

RRP looks fail at around $110:

It is the same as the HD7750 GDDR5:

    Toms Hardware review:

It seems the GPU measures 118MM2 and has 1.3 billion transistors.

OcUK are selling them for around £90.

£90? You can get a 7750 for £80, which based on the tomshardware figures wipes the floor with it (and that's before the 900MHz bump).

Re: The GK107 based GT640 tested.

The thing is you got the HD7750 if you want a bus powered card for around £80 to £90,the HD6850 1GB for under £100 and the HD7770 1GB for around £100.

The main reason I would like to see the GDDR5 is to see how performance is,with more bandwidth. I do get the feeling that people were pre-judging GCN as being inferior to Kepler a bit too early.

Re: The GK107 based GT640 tested.

The new version of the 7750 may stir things a bit, as with a power connector it's bound to overclock pretty well above its rated 900MHz (probably well over a reference 7770). Perhaps the original 7750 will drop a bit in price, it'd be brilliant value at around £65.

Re: The GK107 based GT640 tested.

It looks like the GT650M is around 20% faster than the GT640M due to GDDR5:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gami...ce-tested.html

Both are GK107 based and have 384 shaders.

The GT650M has a higher clockspeed than the GT640M too:
