Re: psu for am h d4890

sorry, but as far as I'm concerned a no-name PSU of any kind is unsuitable for any PC!

That said, there are rare instances of decent OEM PSUs getting distributed without branding, and 30A on the 12v sounds better than the usual spec you get on a no-name cheapo PSU. But without some indication as to the origin of the PSU I'd be unwilling to risk it, personally. Got any more details about it? A picture of the PSU label might help, see if we can track down the original manufacturer and any details about the PSU itself...

    This one?

If so then please don't let it near any computer. £12 does not buy you enough technology to reliably provide power and deal gracefully with any problems that arise - and in a £12 PSU, there's a decent chance problems will arise. I certainly wouldn't let it near a discreet GPU - it doesn't even have a PCIe power connector, and the 4890 (iirc) needs two of those.

thermaltake`s psu calculator shows the entire pc load , even with 25% capacitor aging is under 300w anyway oO - think they can leave the machine as it is.....

Re: psu for am h d4890

I'd be amazed if that PSU provided as much as 300W reliably and within ATX specs for voltage and ripple, tbh. It can probably manage 150W without stepping too far out of line. Thing is, for most non-gaming machines it's hard to pull them over 150W anyway (I had an old PC with a hungry P4 and a discreet 8400GS which pulled ~ 150W at the wall), which is why so many people think no-brand PSUs are alright. And frankly, if this was marketed as a 200W PSU I'd not really have a problem with it. But a 4890 *will* push a PC up to around 300W, and I'd not be happy with that PSU pulling that much power - as I said, it doesn't even have enough connectors for a 4890 for starters...

Re: psu for am h d4890

Yeh seriously, don't buy cheapy psu's! It's the most important component in the whole system! I figured this out after a buying a budget novatech psu which destroyed both my graphics cards. I don't know what the rest of the system is but I would say to get a decent branded psu of about 450W+.

What is the rest of the system??

An XFX PRO 450W could probably be fine. However,an OCZ ZS 550W would do the job.
