Well the price has come as a nice surprise. The 780 now looks a little expensive, must now wait to see what the custom coolers bring to the party. Might just be joining the red team in the near future.

    Re: R9 290 review thread

I find the anandtech comments in their conclusion odd; the noise profile can be managed but they slate the card for being noisy by default. I'd take the extra power and noise with option to reduce it than a locked card at lower power and noise but no option to increase it. What an odd conclusion

I glanced through most of them. However,as I mentioned before I suspected the the R9 290 would be under £350 and be very close to the R9 290X in performance since it would boost higher.

    Re: R9 290 review thread

Sweclockers tested a retail card and compared it to the card AMD sent out:

    http://translate.google.com/translat...ers-undersoker

Performance was the same. It seems TH might have had a defective R9 290X.

    Re: R9 290 review thread

Looks like a very impressive card. When the board manufacturers start shipping out versions with their custom coolers I reckon the noise/heat issue will be forgotten and they will fly off the shelves.

    Re: R9 290 review thread

OK, I'm sold. At a cost of £70 less than the cheapest available 780 here in Norway, this card is a no-brainer. Once the custom cooled varieties arrive I'm biting.

    Many thanks for this Cat!
FYI: If noise and temps of the R9 290, get the Artic Accelero Xtreme III (as recommended by tomshardware's article)
