Is the R9 270X the best for £150?

Well, I guess the title says it all... I'm looking for a graphics card to replace my old Geforce 8800GT, is the AMD R9 270X the best for £150 or should I be looking nVidia's way?

Readily available to buy at £150, perhaps, but Amazon were selling GTX760s for £157.99 the other week - you might stumble across something like that again.

So the GTX760 is better than the R9 270X?

BTW,the HD7950 is being re-released as the R9 280 IIRC. Also, avoid any reference GTX760 cards - they can have throttling issues.

Re: Is the R9 270X the best for £150?

What's a reference card? So I should definitely be looking at the R9 270X then. Any suggestions of which one to get? I've head the Sapphire Dual-X is meant to be one of the better AMD cards around.

Re: Is the R9 270X the best for £150?

A reference card is one that's designed completely to the manufacturer's specifications. Typically they're released first, then AIBs like Sapphire will release their customised versions with unique coolers and features.

Re: Is the R9 270X the best for £150?

Okay, I'm probably gonna go ahead and get the XFX one because that's got free BF4 on scan.co.uk as well. Do you think I'll be able to run it off a 500w PSU?

Re: Is the R9 270X the best for £150?

As above - 270x is probably the best at its price point. It should run no problem off a 500w PSU, but it depends on the make. If its a cheap quality job off Amazon that cost you 10 pounds, it'd be best to get a new one.

Re: Is the R9 270X the best for £150?

I'm using an OCZ StealthXtreme II 500w, seemed to be a decent quality PSU when I bought it. However, it only has one PCIe 6 pin connector, will using a moles adapter overload it?
