Price Check: R9 290x with G10 and H75

Hi Guys

Thinking or doing some changes to my system and want to know how much I might be able to get for my current GFX card for budgeting purposes.

Its a stock HIS R9 290x which has had the original stock cooler removed and replaced with a Kraken G10 (Black) and Corsair Hydro H75 AIO Liquid Cooler. Still have the box for the AIO cooler and the stock AMD cooler to throw into the deal (although the fan on the stock cooler is a little on the duff side, makes loads of noise in use even when idling).

Card has not been overclocked or used for mining.

My nephew sold an identical setup about 3 months ago, I think he only got about £200 on eBay for the lot, I'll see if I can get him to confirm the total and get back to you.

Something similar sold on OCUK for £250. I'd suggest £225 would be appropriate.,

If you are thinking of shrinking your system in size AFAIK there should be mini-ITX cases which can take an R9 290X IIRC.

Kanoe: Just wondering what was the stock fan like on that 290X? I mean in terms of noise. I am considering it. My reference HD 7870 fan was loud at 40% (well, I didn't like it) so am wondering just how bad the stock cooling is in terms of noise?


Also, wondering something, as my current setup eats 380W at full load (CPU+GPU) at the wall thinking maybe this same setup could be used on my 450W PSU? provides 36A@+12V@92% efficiency.

Tight fit, but lower temperatures equate to lower power consumption which opens a door on my small setup.

IIRC the stock HSF on my nephew's 290X was LOUD. Not as loud as it was on the 6990 I used to own, but still loud enough to annoy me, it was much better with the Kraken bracket and H75 cooler but when he saw the difference between his 290X and my 780Ti he swapped over to a 780Ti too.

After the initial slightly disappointing quote of £200 I got a little dispirited and decided to give it to my wife and sell her 7970 OC instead.

Mikeo01 - The stock cooler is very loud, I went for the secondary bios that allows the fan to run higher to ensure that it could cool enough to not throttle the core clock, I was however prepared to live with it and I did know that was going to be the case before I bought it. What I didn't expect was for the fan to basically fail after a couple of months. Instead of RMA decided to replace the cooling solution to make it quieter and cooler and it did a very good job.

On reflection I got the model number wrong its got a H55 strapped to it not the H75, created the post from memory and must have had a blond moment.
