Desired budget would be a nice addition no point to suggest several cards it they will be out of your financial reach.

Would say roughly R9 280x-290 or Geforce 770-780. Heavily depending on your budget.

Quick search reveals that R9 280x from under £200 and R9 290 from £260. Unless you are willing to spend more, like for a R9 290x or even 295x2 (which will see it's price drop this month).

Fascinating, but I can't seem to be able to find the 290x for even under £300. Back to the initial suggestion of R9 290 for £260.

Wow, didn't realise R9 290 had gone done that much

Bargain! Saying that, my R9 280 (non X) was only £150 and it overclocks to well over 280x levels (1175/1550) which aint too shabby either (matches most factory overclocked 280x models in performance)

Re: Upgrade from XFX HD 5830

From everything I read it looks like 290 is the sweet spot in price/performance and was where I was going till I saw the Zotac 780ti with borderlands pre sequel for £100 more. Worked on the theory that I would have been paying 39.99 for the game anyway so at effectively only £60 more I went for it. Don't know if I made the right decision yet though!

Makes sense to me if you were going to pay full price for the game anyway.

I'm trying to convince myself a similar principle in buying a Corsair H100i over an H80i, they're about £15 different in price but with the H80i I'd need 2 exhaust fans for the roof whereas the H100i will be the roof exhaust so no need for more fans.

Actually. My friend who has a Has well i5 OD to 4.3Ghz at the time of finishing the machine didn't had proper memory modules but was functioning with a single module of DDR3 1GB 1333Mhz but thanks to the SSD pagefile he didn't noticed much trouble (even when playing games like StarCraft and such).
