    Upgrade from GTX 670

I'm currently running a 2GB ASUS DirectCU II TOP GTX 670 (Could the name be any longer?) and I've had it roughly two and a half years now, It's been a brilliant card and kept below 70c for the entire time I've had it. My problem now is that with newer, more demanding games coming out and the fact I want to add another 27" monitor to my setup (which again, I have no idea with) and intend on recording YouTube videos/streaming frequently.

I know the GTX 9xx series have just been announced but I've been out of the loop for a while so I'm not sure where to invest, price wise I'm looking between £300-£450, I want to stay away from the ridiculous Titan prices If possible.

    Any help/advice would be appreciated!

The GTX970 would be a decent enough upgrade, but AMD is making an annoucement this week of possibly a new GPU(hopefully).

Funnily enough, I've just upgraded from the same Asus DirectCUII 670 to an MSI 970 myself The new card hasn't arrived yet though. Are you gaming at 1440p on your existing 27" monitor? I was finding certain games (like Battlefield 4) were just a bit too much for my 670. I'm not sure how a single 970 would cope running two 1440p monitors in games though...SLI might be necessary, depending on the games you play & the amount of 'eye candy' you like. Of course if the two monitor setup isn't for gaming, there's no problem.

@MrJim I'm not yet gaming at 1440p and I don't want to have to fork out to get 2x 1440p monitors as I've not long got this one, I'm looking at the Acer UM.HB0EE.A01 from Scan.

So will both your monitors be 1080p? What types of games is your 670 struggling with? Have you tried over-clocking your 670 to see whether that gives you sufficient performance? The GTX 970 is currently between £270-£300, which would be well within your budget, as indeed would a 980. It might be worth reading a few reviews of the two cards to see how it copes at multi-monitor resolutions. The problem with a two-monitor surround system is that the 'join' would be in the centre, which is where you really need an unimpeded view; a three screen system is usually preferable.

    Re: Upgrade from GTX 670

Yes, both my monitors will be running 1080p, I'm not looking to run games across both at the same time I want to multitask basically. My 670 is beginning to struggle with some of the latest titles, It's still running everything at high but because I want 2x monitors I need more than 2GB vram.

Well as I said above, two monitors for gaming isn't ideal - three is better, as the monitor bezel isn't in the centre of your field of view. This how a two-monitor setup looks:

The bezels get in the way of your field of view. Whereas with three monitors, your centre view isn't obstructed:

I think you'd be better off getting three smaller 1080p screens, rather than two 27" ones. With your budget, you could almost SLI two 970s to get the performance you want.

One final option might be to get one of the new 21:9 super wide monitors, I think there's even a curved one which has been released...

    Re: Upgrade from GTX 670

I did say above that I'm not looking to use both for gaming, one would be for gaming while the other is for desktop/server admin stuff so I wouldn't have this problem anyway.

    Re: Upgrade from GTX 670

Ah, I see - I misread your post. No problem, then I'm surprised that your 670 is struggling at 1080p though, most of the games I play run pretty well even at 1440p, but of course that depends on your personal preferences for frame-rates and visual effects.

Well as I said It's running fine at the moment, It's more the fact I want to upgrade to 2 monitors and I intend on streaming as well so.. I think It's time for an upgrade.

    Re: Upgrade from GTX 670

Well as Cat said, I'm sure AMD will be responding to the GTX 970 & 980 at some point, whether it's by price reductions in the R9 290 & 290X, or by releasing new cards of their own. The GTX 970 currently undercuts the 290X by a big margin, & performs very similarly or even better in some games. I suppose you also need to consider things like G-Sync and PhysX support with Nvidia, or FreeSync, Mantle, & TrueAudio with AMD, & decide which (if any) matter to you.

    Re: Upgrade from GTX 670

I'm in the same situation myself and ill caveat this by saying I don't really need an upgrade, just want one. 670s are on eBay for around 120 which means it's about the same price for an sli upgrade as a 970. I'm leaning towards the latter simply due to the opportunity to sli in the future, however I want to wait for AMDs response. There will have to be one, either with a new card or a change in pricing.

I'm sure it'll be a great card, my Asus 670 has been brilliant for me too. I thought I'd give MSI a go this time though, as their 970 got a few good reviews, & I think their UK support is a bit better than Asus, from what I've read. It's also a little cheaper, & uses the same trick at the Stryx in turning off the fans while idling on the desktop.

A GTX 970 for £260 sounds like the perfect upgrade! I'm still gaming with my old trust worthy 8800GT.

I'm looking to upgrade my GTX 670 too now that theres been price cuts and the 9 series is out. I'm however torn between buying a GTX 780 OC for £210 or an MSI GTX 970 for £275
