Re: Opinions on GPU upgrade - GTX 970 or GTX 780?

I'd personally go for a 970 due to all the new features, lower price and similar performance to a 780ti or better according to some tests.

I'll go for a 970, coz the 970 have a lot of headroom to overclock and will blow away the 780Ti

Re: Opinions on GPU upgrade - GTX 970 or GTX 780?

The 970 does have 4Gb of RAM vs 3Gb on the 780, which might be a factor depending on the games you want to run (e.g. Watchdogs) or the resolution you game at...

It's not just about that - I find it adds a little bit of lag to the game, just enough so I notice it (fallout 3 is quite bad for it) and not enough so that it really irritates me.

That's why you use adaptive v-sync. It's name is misleading as it's essentially max fax fps limiter. You don't get the vsync input lag and you only get screen tearing if your FPS dips below your refresh rate.

Re: Opinions on GPU upgrade - GTX 970 or GTX 780?

Any ideas how to enable it? Most games I play offer V-Sync and that's it. However with a 760 and trying to run games in 1440p I often get frame drops. Couldn't go back to a TN Panel now though for G-Sync!

My feelings entirely. I want a 1440p IPS G-Sync monitor!

I think everyone is waiting for a 140Hz IPS G-Sync XD
I'm in the same boat, I have a GTX 670 also and looking for an upgrade within the next year, still patiently waiting for that "WOW" offer on an nvidia card

Re: Opinions on GPU upgrade - GTX 970 or GTX 780?

The gtx 970 also uses less power which should make it easier for you to SLI if you buy a second one down the line. All in all I've researched a lot in the past 2 weeks cause I also plan on buying a gtx 970 for a new rig and in my opinion if you have the money for the 970 you should go for it.

If you don't actually need the upgrade now, wouldn't you get more for your money if you held off until you did?

The 780ti's are quite cheap at the moment, and also very good

Out of the two cards in question, I'd rather pick up a GTX 970.
