    Opinions on GPU upgrade - GTX 970 or GTX 780?

    I can currently pick up a GTX 780 OC for about £210 or the other option would be an MSI GTX 970 for £275. Considering there is a £65 difference and from what I've seen, the performance is around on par, I cant make up my mind.

    Obviously I guess the GTX 970 is more future proof in the sense that it supports HDMI 2.0, has extra VRAM for 4k gaming (Although I currently only game at 1080p), but i'm not sure whether its worth an extra £65.

    What are your thoughts? Which would you go for?

    I wouldnt say 780ti is bang for buck however.. an OC 780 or 970 arent far off 780ti performance so that is probably out of the question. Especially when they are 300+, as opposed to £210 and £275

    Check your ebay mobile app, I had 20% off upto £100 on electronics sitting in the vouchers section, so I'm now the proud owner of a shiny pari of970s for £469.

    My specs are;

    i5-4670 (Stock clock)
    8GB DDR3 Ram
    Zotac 670GTX

    The annoying thing about eBay is I believe they only send these vouchers to dormant accounts. They dont seem to show any loyalty to active customers.

    And an overclocked 780ti isn't far off a 980, which is another £130 more, so it's a bit of a bargain!

    I'm not convinced. Looking on Scan, 780ti's are being sold for £380 odd, thats nearly double what I could purchase a 780 OC for. Unless Scan are overpricing and they're cheaper elsewhere?

    Thats something to contemplate then. Although in my mind im thinking the 780 OC is perhaps working out the best value in comparision to performance. If I take the jump however I'm just hoping I dont regret it in the near future, considering its older hardware. Guess I'd have the same issue with a 780ti

    Not really, I can run most games at 60fps 1080p (apart from the odd game like Crysis 3). However with many new games on the horizon and the price drops now in affect, i'd like to future proof myself and continue being able to play games at 60fps v-synced

    V sync?? I personally find it ruins the gaming experience by adding noticeable lab and stuttering as frame rates often dip below 60 even though average may well be above it

    Most my games comfortably run at 60fps and above so I dont encounter such issues, however in events where the frame rate does dip below 60, nvidia cards have adaptive v-sync which prevents the game locking to 30fps or stuttering.

    I've just had a couple of rounds of BF4 and with a single card (second one doesn't fit with the network card, going to try a riser for that or it will have to go back) and even with a single card its been over 90 fps the entire time. I'm struggling to not send the second one back to be honest The only thing holding me off is I fancy an ultrawide monitor at some stage. I'd suggest anything in the 970/780/780ti range is tonnes for 1080p.

    Scan had a 780ti for £315, I ordered one but then they said the day after it wasn't in stock, however the 970 when oced looks very appealing.
