R9 Saphire 280X Toxic artifacting issues.

    Hi!

I have recently been having some problems with my PC and I think it is down to my graphics card but am not sure.. I am running Windows 8.1 and using the latest ATI drivers.

The 'artifacts' (I have heard that this may be an incorrect term?) I am getting appear in a checkerboard fashion and always in the same place - 2 squares on the upper right hand side of my screen.

The weird thing is that this only happens when I am on the desktop or gaming in windowed mode - if I start a full-screen game with the artifacts there then they disappear. Then if I alt-tab out to the desktop they have vanished

I have under-clocked the card to 1100 / 1500 and forced it to run at max all the time but neither fix the problem. I do sometimes get crashes due to CCC, which never happened when I was on Windows 7, but then that was with a different GPU.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this and if there is a fix? Unfortunately I cannot RMA the card as it is second hand

    Thanks!

    Hi Mr Snaffles,

Sorry to hear of this issue you're having.

Which drivers are you using, 14.9?

Am i correct in saying the artifacts are not present if you run the game in full screen mode?

Please can you try the following and let me know if it fixes your issue or not.

    1. Uninstall the AMD drivers first via this pc/uninstall or change a program.
    2. Download and install the latest version of DDU.
    3. Run DDU, allow it to restart into safe mode.
    4. In safe mode clean AMD entries and restart.
    5. Install the 14.9.1 drivers from the AMD website.

If you still have artifacts after this please provide a DXDIAG report. Upload it to SendSpace and share the download link with me.

    Thank you.

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for your reply. You are correct - they don't appear when I am full screen gaming. It is also kind of random - I will get them every time I use my pc, but not sure what triggers it..

    I'm using Driver 14.20.1004-140811a-174673E , Catalyst version 14.7 ?

I will do your test now and let you know this evening when I am back from work if it is successful!

    Thanks!

Re: R9 Saphire 280X Toxic artifacting issues.

    Hi,

I haven't had a chance to see if it has worked yet as I will need to use my PC for a longer period, but the AMD Gaming Evolved app has told me there is a new driver (14.9) available?

I downloaded the 14.9.1 Beta driver from the website - assume that was the right one?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

It seems to have worked so far I played an hour of Stonehearth in windowed mode, which has caused the issue before and nothing bad happened!

Out of curiosity, what do you think it was that was causing the problem?
