NVIDIA Rolls Out GeForce 344.48 WHQL Game Ready Driver

"NVIDIA rolled out the GeForce 344.48 WHQL "Game Ready" drivers, timed to launch with Civilization: Beyond Earth, Elite: Dangerous, and Lords of the Fallen. These drivers enable Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR), which debuted on the "Maxwell" based GeForce GTX 900 series, on all older "Fermi" and "Kepler" based GeForce GTX 500, GTX 600, and GTX 700 series GPUs."

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the driver update was to introduce new features and some SLI profiles and not for an immediate performance boost.

    Exactly.

DSR is great for me in older games like Starcraft (or anything else by Blizzard ).
While I can't quite handle 4k @ 60hz the rather odd 2715x1527 res looks awesome.

I can actually see the point in having a better graphics card now

DSR, same as the AMD downsampling feature.....a great way to burn electricity for a potential marginal IQ increase. I can only presume in many cases you lose as much as you gain due to losing 1:1 pixel mapping.

Re: NVIDIA Rolls Out GeForce 344.48 WHQL Game Ready Driver

Of course there is a cost to it, but if people are worried by an extra few pence on their electricity bills they can always turn it off.
Very few people seem to pay attention to power efficiency when buying graphics cards, so I doubt anyone cares that much about power efficiency with DSR.

Do you anyone that turns down details on games in order to save electricity?
People turn down details to get better frame rates, but not to save power.

Re: NVIDIA Rolls Out GeForce 344.48 WHQL Game Ready Driver

Just a heads-up for anyone with an MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G graphics card - there's a minor glitch if you upgrade to the 344.48 driver. Basically, when idling in Windows, the fans start up for about a second or so every 30 seconds, when they should remain off. This happens even though the temperature is minimal. Rolling back to 344.16 fixes the problem, but we just have to hope that Nvidia & MSI fix the problem in the next driver release. There's a thread about the issue over at the MSI Forums:

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=184333.0

Luckily I've got a windowed case & noticed the problem, but there must be lots of MSI owners out there that don't notice that their fans are constantly starting & stopping.
