What sort of games do you play & at which resolution? The 980 would probably be the natural choice, & it does benefit from 4Gb RAM. But if you could find a 780ti at a great price, it's still a fantastic card.

Can't future proof. No single card of this generation is satisfactory for 4K really. (Except in games fine with low fps). If you're going 4K in the future then buy a cheaper card now and budget to replace it later.

The ti is much faster. More shaders etc. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7492/t...-780-ti-review

At the moment if you're planning on playing games at 4K & decent frame rates, you'll basically be needing two of either of the cards in SLI. I would have thought the 4Gb frame buffer in the 980 will be of benefit too. You can compare benchmark results here:

    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1072?vs=1351

The stock 980 has a small but measurable advantage in most benchmarks.

Are you finding that your current 680 isn't up to running your games at 1080p? If it's still usable, my advice would be to wait until 4K monitors are a bit cheaper, & get a 20nm GPU at that time...hopefully a single card will be powerful enough to run games at decent speeds.

Re: gtx 680 to gtx 780ti or gtx 980 help needed

I believe the 780ti performs better than the 980 in games such as crysis 3 and such on max at 1920x1080, but it would only be a few frames.
If you can get a cheap 780ti then get one, I haven't regretted choosing it over the 980.

If you look at the Annandtech benchmark link I posted previously, the 980 outperforms the 780ti on 7 of the 9 Crysis 3 metrics. As you say though, it's still a great card, especially if you can find one £100 cheaper than a 980...

well that's sounds really good but what has the gtx 780ti got over the 980 I mean has it got 2 780s in the 780ti then and surely the 980 has got more new things in it than the 780ti

Nothing really. Wider memory bandwidth is about it. But it is a lot cheaper.
I mean has it got 2 780s in the 780ti
No. See the link posted earlier.

I see well I think I go for the 980 as I have looked at all the benchmarks and it seems to beat the gtx 780ti in about every test and its only another £100 more and will be selling my x79 setup with gtx 680 to get some money back

Or you could just hold fire and wait a few months for "big Maxwell"?

I expect when the R9 390X is released,Nvidia would do so too.

IMHO,the GTX970 and GTX780TI are simply better value choices - in fact you could probably get a GTX780 SLI setup for a similar price as ONE GTX980.

Re: gtx 680 to gtx 780ti or gtx 980 help needed

well I know what you mean wait till they do a titan 980 sort of thing but as well for the gtx 780ti the cheapest place I saw one was for £299.00 and I saw a gtx 980 for £399 so would not be able to afford 2 gtx 780ti for the same price as one 980
