    Replacement GPU

Hi all, was looking for some advice.

I have been running a Gigabyte GTX 480 SOC for a number of years now and have been quite content with the performance. I was tempted by a 970 or even a 295X2 at the Christmas sale prices but did not go for anything yet. A friend at work has just offered me his Zotac GTX 670 AMP! as he has upgraded to a 970 G1.
He has said he will take £100 for it. Do you think it would be worthwhile me upgrading to a 670 for £100 or better to spend my money elsewhere? Or not bother upgrading just yet at all? GRID Autosport is the only recent game I play and I am happy with the performance I am getting right now. The only two games I am really looking forward to are GTA V and Project Cars.

Thanks in advance for your input.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Re: Replacement GPU

While the 670AMP is a good budget card you would need to go for a R9 280 or similar (slightly more than £100 you mention) to get more performance [imho] - the GTX760 is not better than a GTX670, and I do not see any reason for 770 or a R9 270x or earlier although these may be at the £100 price point. The GTX670 will use less power

I have a Pallit GTX770 and like it - yes, I would like more performance - but for basic work - most card would be useable - the issue may be if you will consider wanting a 1920x1080 display or higher - the 4K almost need a £400-600 card, but few need this level.

So if £100 is the mark, see what you could get for £100-125 and judge that against the GTX 670 card you have been offered.

EDIT: GTA V states GTX 660/670 - so that would be fine for now http://www.game-debate.com/games/ind...eft%20Auto%20V

    Re: Replacement GPU

The 670 is definitely a worthwhile upgrade - it will give you a fairly sizeable jump in performance:

A quick ebay search indicates £100 seems more or less fair for an OC'd version with aftermarket cooler although I'd perhaps offer £90

Also, once you get money back from selling your 480 it will work out even better.

FWIW, hwcompare is a BAD website for comparing anything useful, along with similar ones like cpuboss which just compare a few random numbers - something you simply cannot do with computer hardware.

If you want to compare hardware, look for actual tests/benchmarks. Anandtech's benchmark database as linked by george1979 above is far better, albeit imperfect due to differing driver versions for example. But still, infinitely better than 'theoretical benchmarks'.
