    Best Budget Card?

What's the best budget gaming card at the moment? I have seen a few things that mention the R9 270X being pretty good for value to performance.

    Re: Best Budget Card?

    How budget is budget?

For sub 150 its most likely the best option.

You can pick up a 280 for ~£142 though.

Yeah I'd say sub £150 can be classed as budget.

    Re: Best Budget Card?

Id say the 280 then. Its slightly slower than the 270x on core/memory speeds but it can be overclocked if needed.

Along with the more memory for those hungry games I'd say its an easy choice.

Im not too clued up on Nvidia but I dont think they have anything to compete in this price bracket.

    Re: Best Budget Card?

The pricing of the AMD cards is so close together, a 270X can be more expensive than a 280, but there's not much in it. It's not like you can just pick a price and there is only 1 option. Confusing.

    Re: Best Budget Card?

I'd agree and say the R9 280 or GTX 960. The Palit version of the GTX 960 is just sub-£150 by 1p.

285 for £133 looks okay value; I would read up on the reviews first.

    Re: Best Budget Card?

I would avoid 270x's because they are just slightly overclocker 270's. Either get a 280/285 or a 270 with a decent cooler and overclock it to a 270x.

    Re: Best Budget Card?

That's pretty much what I'm after dturtill. A nice quiet card when just doing normal desktop type stuff but then kicks in for the games. I have read that MSi are reasonably quiet compared to others so I've been looking more at those.

    Re: Best Budget Card?

Just read a few reviews on the MSI it seems to be a good one to go for - may have to make it my new card next month

Sightly off topic folks but what's the best buy if the OP said his budget was £150 to £200
2nd computer gigabyte P965ds3p, 7770 E2140@2.9ghz, corsair HX520 6 years stable, replaced now with E8400@3.9ghz and will overclock more when I'm bored.

In the sub-£200 bracket I would go for the R9 280X.
