GTX 980 TI vs 980 vs Titan x (Gaming)

I need to build a new PC as my gaming laptop is bottle-necking.
Use: gaming/editing/streaming/coding
Therefore I'm looking to "future proof" my rig as much as possible - opting for the x99 architecture.

However I'm wanting to get the best Graphics card for money. I'm fromt the UK and parts are quite expensive:
980 - £400-£500 (would have to get sli down the road - so may as well opt for titan?)
Titan X - £888 (seems too expensive)

I can wait until the end of summer until the build

How much do you think the GTX 980 TI will cost and will it be a good in between point between the 980 and Titan X in terms of cost and performance?

The best future proofing for the money is to buy the slowest/cheapest card you can get away with now, and put the saving aside to upgrade it later.

Also if you can wait until the end of summer, then wait, as new releases/announcements should lower prices further or give an alternative choice - the 390X might be a better alternative for instance, and we will know more about the 980ti - no point speculating now in terms of a future purchase.

The cards are already DX12 today, so I wouldn't use that as a differentiator. We may have some idea of DX12 performance via windows 10 preview drivers. The main difference is lower CPU overhead, which won't be a problem for your X99 system, it's more designed for low power devices.

I would probably wait until June at least since the new AMD cards will be out.
