    970 for a 450w psu?

I have a cooler master V450S running in my rig with an i5 4440, 120Gb SSD, 1TB WD Blue and 4x4TB WD Green.

The psu is 450w 80+ gold with 36A on the 12v rail, so 432w.

Weighing up getting my first serious gaming card. Tempted by 4gb MSI gtx970 gaming 100 million edition, but might wait until amd release their new line.

According to MSI's website that version of the 970, 100 ME, recommends a 400w psu, but the standard MSI 970 4G gaming needs 500w.

    So two questions:

    1. Whats the difference between the two cards that allow for the lower psu on the 100 ME vs the 4g gaming?

    2. Will my rig be able to run it and possibly overclock it as well?

    Thanks.

Check out this HEXUS review: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphi...-strix/?page=9

You'll see that even the 980 cards were drawing less than 250W under gaming - you'll be fine with that PSU.

Slightly different scenario but I’ve got a 80% Gold rated SFX-L Silverstone PSU and an EVGA GTX 970 FTW. It has got x2 6pin requirement but I have VBios modded it to up the amount of juice it sucks. With x2 SSD, x1 4th HDD, External Creative Sound Blaster USB sound card and the CPU overlocked to 4.2Ghz (No extra voltage required) I’ve not run in to any issues at all.
I’m waiting on the EVGA Step-Up process to switch the 8+6 pin FTW+ version. I can’t see it causing me any issues.
