I just wanted to let you know of the recent announcement made by the CD Projekt Red team regarding AMD Radeon performance on the up and coming title, The Witcher 3.

Many of you have asked us if AMD Radeon GPUs would be able to run NVIDIA’s HairWorks technology – the answer is yes! However, unsatisfactory performance may be experienced as the code of this feature cannot be optimized for AMD products. Radeon users are encouraged to disable NVIDIA HairWorks if the performance is below expectations.

Its a shame when TressFX,despite is limited utilisation,works OK on both vendors hardware. AMD as a company does need to start pushing its tech more actively otherwise Nvidia will have free reign to do what they want.

I thought hairworks works OK on both vendors too. We'll have to see if there's a disproportional hit.

some reports on the CDPR forums are anywhere between 10-20fps with hairworks enabled, but they don't mention the system involved.


I will be testing it on an onboard Radeon 3300 from 2009 though, just because it runs crisis, why not Witcher 3 ?

Witcher 3 is DX11 only (rumoured to be DX12 aswell when win 10 released)

so as to, will it work on my onboard? answer no way whatsoever.

Be nice if those who have it on Win10 (myself) have the option to enable DX12 in it.

I doubt the DX12 support is final yet.

Has the DX12 spec even been formally finalised yet? Even if it hasn't, DX12 certainly hasn't been publicly released, so I doubt game vendors are allowed to allow its use in retail products. Perhaps they could make a beta DX12 patch available, but do you really want game devs writing patches to ADD beta-quality stuff to a released game, given the number of glitches and bugs supposed release-quality code tend to have...

thats why I said 'rumoured' to be dx12. could be a patch, or one of the last DLCs

no one has any idea, and CDPR aren't denying/confirming/acknowledging it as of yet.

so just wait and see.
