Question Should I upgrade my GTX 680?

    Hi Every

Currently running my trusty old Intel Q6600, 4GB RAM and a GTX 680.

Plnning out my Skylake upgrade - i7, 16GB RAM - but not sure if I should upgrde my GPU while I'm at it?

I don't mind which brand (seems every Skylake mobo supports Crossfire, but not SLI).

I only game at 1080p and have no plans to up that. The computer will sit behind my TV and on 24/7, so could do with whatever I possibly upgrade to being very quiet and power efficient.

I've looked at a 970 but don't know if the upgrade will be worth it?

    Thanks for any advice!

    Regarding the CPU,either go for a Core i5 6600K or a Core i7 5820K. The Core i7 6700K is not worth spending a similar amount of money to a Core i7 5820K.

Re: Should I upgrade my GTX 680?

I was going with Skylake because I only upgrade CPU, mobo and Ram every 5-7 years so I always get the latest.

    I'll have a look, thanks

EDIT: Oh, I love this mobo: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X99S-S...#hero-overview

    X99 it is.

    So what about the GPU?

You might have been CPU bottlenecked in some titles,so stick with the card IMHO for the time-being.

The GTX 680 is a decent spec card, I'd do as Cat suggests, hold on to it for now and only change it if or when it starts letting you down.

Re: Should I upgrade my GTX 680?

I'm running a 2GB GTX 770 at the moment, and it's starting to falter a little on me on titles that are VRAM hogs, but if it's not really letting you down in the games you play, I'd wait to see what next years GPUs will bring to the table.
