Yeah, since announcements of the GTX 1070/1080, there is absolutely no point looking at the GTX 980Ti unless there is a sizeable discount. And I mean sizeable.

Well, that's not entirely accurate, at least not for everyone. I have 980 Ti, and I am gaming in 2K and 4K, depends on the game. For me, it will make much more sense to buy a second 980 Ti (as soon as prices start to drop), than selling my 980 ti and then buying 1070/1080. I will get more performance by having 2 980 Ti's then selling mine and buying a new 1070/1080, which roughly spending the same amount of money in the end.
Just to add my voice to the pile of others, certainly not overkill. A 1080 wouldn't even be overkill in many situations. Probably shouldn't go with a last gen card right now though.
Hmmm, replying to my own post....isn't that like talking to oneself...?
However, I think it may now be time for anybody in the market for a GTX 980Ti to actually go ahead and buy one. I've seen them for as low as £379 and decent overclocked versions for about £420. Now, if it's worth buying over the GTX 1070, I dunno, but some people are saying that a good overclocked version of a 980Ti is slightly faster than a 1070. Like I say, I dunno, I'm just stating the fact that 980Ti's are now a lot cheaper.
