780ti Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

    Hello everyone,

So a few months back I switch my PC on, and immediately noticed a drop in resolution on post. Windows booted up and I could not increase screen resolution beyond 800*600. Uninstalled drivers, reinstalled, switched pci slots, used ddu to clean display drivers, reinstalled with the latest drivers available AGAIN , still no change.

After a busy summer, #2 did all the above again, installed the gpu in a known working pc, and did the above again and still, the resolution is limited at 800*600.

I also have "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" on when i go on device manager > 780ti.

    Anything more I could do?

Aside from the drop in resolution, is the card working?

It's almost like the GPU/system is detecting the monitor incorrectly. When you tried on a different system, did you also try a different monitor? Maybe there's some monitor profile that's being loaded incorrectly.

2 different monitors, initially actually I thought it was the monitor, the drivers were installed for the monitor, yet when this issue occurred it had become a generic pnp monitor. Reinstalled the drivers for the monitor and still no change. Sorry for the patchy memory, it was 7 months ago

2nd system, the monitor is runs as a generic pnp monitor happily on my r9 270, I have now installed the drivers for it, and will try the 780 again.

Hooked the 780, on device manager, the monitor has become a generic pnp, and there is a small yellow exclamation mark on the 780ti.

Attempted to reinstall the drivers, however during the setup there is a drop down menu which asks what display adapter I want to install the monitor on, it's blank.

10 mins ago I installed the same driver, and on that drop down menu I had selected r9 270.... :S

So something wrong with the 780ti presenting information about itself to the system. You might be able to recover by flashing the firmware on the 780ti perhaps, though in situation where it's struggling to ID itself that could be risky too I guess.

RMA? I think it had some warranty left.

Oh, probably. Just make sure you really do think the issue can be reproduced easily at the other end as some etailers are quite reluctant to help out. You might want to try booting from a linux USB or something to really rule out windows software.

Re: 780ti Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Is the problem in fact that Windows is loading the generic VGA driver rather than the nvidia 780 Ti driver because the card has a problem? Have you tried running any games etc. on the card since the resolution issue appeared? it wouldn't at all surprise me if Windows generic VGA driver topped out at a stupid low resolution while the linux generic driver supported a much wider range. It's possible that the 780 Ti is working fine as a graphics card, but if you ask it do anything GeForcey (like running games or CUDA code) it'll bork horribly.

And yes, the card isnt being detected properly, NZXT cam software says GPU is N/A, tried to run rocket leauge but I could only run it at 800*600 and the menu was extremly laggy.
