    New PC build help please.

Just got my new pc built but am having a bit of a nightmare setting up the drive partitions.

Got 2 500GB WD drives and a 36GB Raptor for OS

Problem is I have an internal memory card reader connected to the Asus P5B deluxe mobo.

When I try to install winxp c d e f taken by the card reader how can I set it up so that the HD is the C: partition.

    Help appreciated.

Install as normal (letting it go in G or whereever), then right click on my computer and click 'manage', double click storage and click on local disk management, you can reassign drive letters here.

bingo, you can change it at any time in windows, except for the boot drive/partition methinks. any non locked boot drive can be changed.

You can't change the OS drive.letter like that.
All you need do is either:-
    1) disconect internal memory card reader & 2 500GB WD drives install os on 36GB Raptor once install is complete add them back.

    2) HD Boot order in bios, make the raptor the 1st bootable drive, select disable for alll other drives u see.

cant you change the letters in computer management and then set the raptor hard drive to be the active drive so that the computer still boots from the raptor...

not when your drive is the OS drive.

All that computer management does is just that - change the drive letter, It does nothing to the registry , now think how many drivers programs etc are indexed with the drive letter in the registry, even on a new install there's probably several hundred references. the options i set out are much easier

so basically remove the card drive and hdd's if needed - install windows on to the OS HDD (raptor) then reconnect the 2 storage drives and finally the card reader.

Pity I tried a *** registry hack before reading your advice

The hack said to change the registry re-boot and all the drives should be re-aligned...

Re-booted and every time Windows logged in it would log off.

Then when I tried mt Windows install disk it would not pick up any drives.

In the end I tried a fresh install and for some reason the drives were aligned correctly...

Will not do it like this again.
