As you go to install XP hit F6 when prompted to add additional storage devices. You will need the drivers on a floppy. In vista it can be done from another CD thankfully.

What drive is it? Probably the quickest way to diagnose this is to download something like the Western Digital Lifeguard Data tools / Diagnostics from their site - its free and comes with easy to use wizards that help you troubleshoot issues etc. You shouldnt need a drive to see the sata drive unless you are doing raid? Windows should be able to deal with that.

what is the best thing i should do now? i can't detect my sata HDD. My mb do support that and have a BIOS for sata.. Why it's not plug and play? this is getting me more confusing with different ways of solving the problem.. what is raid btw.. sorry if i ask noob question.. i really have no idea what is it.

Re: Unable to detect my SATA HDD

Oh sorry to confuse. RAID is a method of seting up hard disks in a way that provides an increase in speed or data redundancy. Do not worry...if you don't know what it is I doubt you use it. So you say the BIOS does not even detect the hard disk? I take it you are allowing the machine to boot up with the disk connected from the start?

As I said, try downloading some drive tools and run diagnostics? Really, you need to be seeing the drive int he BIOS though before anything else or it really wont work.

Re: Unable to detect my SATA HDD

Check in your BIOS, make sure the SATA controllers not running in either RAID or native mode, set it to legacy or emulation and see if the install finds the disk.
