    CHKDSK messages

I run CHKDSK /f on both of my system drives and when I checked the event viewer for the result, I found 'CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap.
Windows has made corrections to the file system' - what does that mean, and what causes it?
    Thanks

    Re: CHKDSK messages

its a documented bug in xp and nothing to worry about if it returns all the time (assuming your on xp ? )

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/315688

i cant find the page that explains the bug if it happens every chkdsk, but if it does you can ignore it

Thanks. I'm on Vista but I assume that doesn't make a lot of difference.

    Re: CHKDSK messages

well when i had it on a maxtor drive, they swapped the drive to start with, them emailed me and said it would happen on the new one and supplied a link to a m$ page that explained its to do with the MFT space and should be fine.

iirc diskeeper can allocate what it thinks is a better MFT size, once you do that it gives it every chkdsk like clockwork.

try 2 chkdsk/r's from the recovery disk and see if it does it.

Thanks. BTW, can you run Samsung's ESTool on your system http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...ort_HUTIL.html I try to run it on mine and I fails half way. I'm running it from a CD-RW if it makes a difference (a 1MB .iso seems a waste on a CD-R)
