    Question BSOD 0x0000007B

basically brand new 2gb ddr1 333mhz crucial stuff for my asrock 2800xp 32bit setup just went and installed a el cheapo ebuyer sata2 card along with a pioneer dvdrw and 1tb sammy spinpoint like i have in my icybox the one with the 32mb cache...now everytime i try install xp sp3 i get the above error.all points to either the sata card or ram yet its booting off it and i've copied the driver to a floppy during the setup and loaded it etc n then just as its about to finish the starting windows bit where you aggree etc and press f8 then partition it stacks with that error.surely it cant be the sata card because it's picked up and booting off the sata dvdrw and the hdd is listed aswel.is it the driver?its the one off the disc thats required and as for the ram i've tried one stick and in a different slot etc.completely stuck here.gonna try memtest in a sec but apart from that i haven't a clue makes no sense does it.

    ERROR CODE IS: 0X0000007B (0XF78D2524,0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

Have you run memtest? Will see if the ram is at fault.

    Re: BSOD 0x0000007D

Well, i presume you've googled the STOP message - it's a weird one alright. 0x0000007D is apparently from back in 2000 (i assume it applies now) and says that you've not got enough usable memory to install (well, run) the OS. Clearly that isn't the case, so i'd be tempted to call shenanigans on the RAM. It's probably worth seeing if you can install onto an IDE hard drive too, if you can. And have considered booting up a linux live CD? Something like GParted might work to get to that hard drive.

Check the HDD hasn't got any bad sectors, the is more than likely the culprit.

    Re: BSOD 0x0000007D

the hdd is brand new... i don't know how i'd go about this as all i've got here with me is my macbook.i'm doing this for a mate's rig...
i do have a sata to usb cable etc but it's mac... so i wouldn't want to risk using ntfs-3g on a brand new drive?
as for memtest it wouldn't boot i tried 2 discs and neither worked yet it boots xp etc... wierddd

    Re: BSOD 0x0000007D

If your XP CD has SP3 slipstreamed then you may not need the driver on the floppy unless you're running in AHCI or RAID mode, depends on the make.

Check you have the latest driver from the maker of the chipset, not necessarily the card itself, make sure you have the correct one for if you're running in AHCI or ATA Compatibility mode. If the SATAII card has a bios, enter it and check what mode you're in, try changing it, etc.

    Re: BSOD 0x0000007D

hmmmm.wierd... running bunty 8.10 fine... did get some gay error when booting but after waiting a little it still boots fine.
"buffer I/O error on device sr0"
but as i say it goes away.
so means the ram isn't knackered? It still won't boot memtest though... but this mobo has a tendancy to be annoying like that with some discs...

right back to windows nlite'd the drivers and still same error... i did want to do a "text" driver option once integrated right? otherwise i'll redo it and choose the other option.

    Re: BSOD 0x0000007D

i know you dont wanna hear this... but would you consider installing XP on an IDE optical drive...? you can take it out afterwards.

humour me see if it works.

    Re: BSOD 0x0000007D

i ended up backing up the original ide drive that was holding data to the 1tb spinpoint sata then wiping it installing xp and then installing sata drivers from the disc as it would not play ball no matter what driver i used on a floppy during the xp setup.either way i'm quite happy using the sata as a seperate drive to windows now.
cheers for everybody's help i'm chuffed I don't have to RMA anything.
    thanks again
