Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
Hey guys, unfortunately the audio cable for my headset broke away from the main cable and it's not covered by warranty. The cable got caught in the chair and as I pulled away it caused the wire to come out. Can anybody give me advice on how to repair the cable?

Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
It will not look pretty but its an easy fix, cut the cable above and below the joiner so you have two loose cables and the headset. Pear back the wires a bit to expose the iners, now your going to have to work out which wire is which, there may or may not be a common ground and there may or may not be a screen. If you have a common ground your probably need a little trial and error, if you have a screen or it is colour coded it should be easy to work out. Use a soldering iron to joint the ends back on, then use head shrink or plastic tape to bind up all the joins. Alturnatively if you don't want to solder use some cable terminating blocks.
When you have the inner wires exposed you can always do another picture and ask for more help. Don't forget things are stereo so we are expecting 5 or 6 wires/screens hopefully the many body will be double screened so easy to work out the pairs and grounds.
Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
Thanks for the advice, I'll have to put more effort into trying to fix it at a later time, because I'm a bit short of cash, to get the right components but I've separated a few of the cables so far using scissors to strip the cable and separate the wires. Unfortunately I think the wires for the microphone look similar to one of the three groups of cables for the audio, so I'm not sure how to distinguish which of the tangled strands of wire they belong to.
Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
Post a picture... and we can have a look. you can always use trial and error to work it out. If you have two different groups try one lot as the "mic" if that does not work try the other one.... While you might think the speaker is an easier test running a mic as a speak can blow it so don't. To work out the pairs you can use a multimeter on resistance. I expect its 8-16 Ohms from ground to live, if there is a shares screen double that between channels etc.
Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
Same thing has just happened to me with these headphones, I stripped them easily, no problems.
That said, on the jack side, there's 3 wires, a red, green and orange, and on the headphone side, a red, green and blue...
So, 2 out of three match, I am assuming the orange goes to blue, but you know what they say about assuming... since the OP hasn't posted any pictures, I'll get some up asap for you to look at before I go soldering...

I've just been doing more surfing, and uncovered this
Can't post a direct link (due to post count) so just take the space out for this...

That's apparently how they're rewired, I'll see how it goes with that.
Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
Finally got the tools and here are the images for the cables.

The top wire is sound the lower is mic coming from the 3.5mm connectors

I should be soldering the wires up according to the help ramashek posted so I'll see how it goes. Also whats with the white fluffy stuff coming out of the wires, never seen it before.
EDIT: I've connected the audio wires and it's working fine, it's just the small mic cable is so small that it burns away with the soldering iron.
Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
Hey I am sorry to revive back this old thread. But I am desperate to know how you rewire it. Did you rewire based on Ramashek's diagram?
Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
Nive thread. I need to perform a full rewiring of mine (thanks to the dog).
Do you know how to proper open the hearbox?
And do you a mic that would fit?
Thanks
Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
Yeah I used Ramashek's design, so I matched the colour wires after stripping some of the wire cover off, twisted the correct wires around each other then soldered them together. Then some heatshrink helped to keep it all together.
Oh and the white cable coming from the mic socket is hidden by the copper cables in the images, it's a tiny white cable which is why I kept burning the wire or stripping too much off the cable so in the end I just left the mic.
Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
Very fine cables can be difficult to solder, use a temperature controlled soldering iron, turn it down the just above the point where the solder melts, use low melting point (silver) solder, and small head on the iron (larger head store more heat (energy)).
Re: Creative Fatal1ty headset broken
I'm trying to repair the audio side I have a blue red and green wire. I have a new stereo jack. Would anyone happen to know what is tip and which color is ring?
Mic side is already working just no audio.
Thanks,
Jason
