Unhappy Help, New build PC runs then dies - whats causing it?

Built my new pc today, build went fine, ran all afternoon no problem, then the PC just died. I switched off the power removed the case and checked all the power sockets. All looked OK. then reassembled and it booted fine, left running for 20min no problems, then lent on the edge of the desk and it died again,

Now im assuming this is a loose connection? a bad PSU? or a short on something (i have a white painted case so I doubt it would short on that?)

The m'board has power as I have a usb wifi that glows green when plugged in - the big m'board connector looks fine?

The power switch I think is OK as it just died without touching it I don't think it can be that? (i could switch the reset/power buttons?)

Any ideas on what to try next? thanks!!!

Usual hot spots for shorting are the IO panel at the back of the motherboard, motherboard stand offs, and front panel connectors. Check all your connector seatings as well, could be a cable is just working its way loose.

Did you do any stress testing in the afternoon? If it passed that then it's unlikely to be a bad component or thermal problems.

thanks kalniel - I will remove the board from the case and check the stand-offs and IO panel as you suggest. Then refit everything - hopefully this will sort it. The joys of pc building - i thought I had made it unscathed when the system booted first time without issue!

RE Stress testing, I ran ubuntu system testing this afternoon and it passed - it not really a stress test though.

Ok, rebuilt everything this morning, went together fine and booted OK. Left running for a few hours all OK.

Then is just died. the power light on the front stayed on I just lost everything and it rebooted.
So could this be SSD failure? PSU Failure?
Rebooted OK and now running ok as before

    Any ideas anyone!???

PS: Spec is antec 400w high current gamer PSU, agility 4 120gb SSD, gigabyte GAB75MD3H, pentium DC 2.8ghz and corsair RAM 8gb 1600mhz - running at 1333

Hmmm. If not a short, I would look at the PSU next. Have you got access to one you could swap in to test ?
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

What are the temperatures looking like? Could be the CPU/BIOS shutting it down, one cause could be the fan/heatsink isn't mounted right/working. BIOS probably has a safe cut out on the CPU temperature so will kick off the power.

Done this myself and it did take a while to realise what was going on, also took a while for it to heat up as I was just installing windows etc due to me moving case as well but old fan/heatsink combo.
