Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
I noticed that HWMonitor is reporting 10C higher temperatures for my Xeon E3 than both Core Temp and Real Temp??
What is correct?? The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H67N-USB3-B3.
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
No idea. But if two apps tell you one thing and only one another, I'd go with the majority.
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
Thanks, but what software did you use in your system??
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
HWiNFO64 seems to show the same temperatures as Core Temp and Real Temp too.
Core Temp says the Tj. max for the Xeon E3 1220 is 94C and HW Monitor says 102C. What is correct??
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
FWIW, HWMonitor's temp matches up with Asus' own monitoring suite on my board - with the CPU temp being 10c less than the individual core temps.
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
Thanks.
For my motherboard all I get is individual core temperatures with HWMonitor. Are you referring to the TMPIN1 and TMPIN2 temperatures??

TMPIN3 on mine lol - which matches CPU Temp in AI Suite.
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
There is no TMPIN3 reading on mine!!
Just a bit of an information the CPU is an undervolted Xeon E3 1220,with Turbo switched off and max TDP set to 65W in the BIOS. I am using it in a SFF PC.
The thing is why I am fretting over this,if I use anything apart from HWMonitor I get acceptable temperatures when the CPU is under load,ie,around 65C when playing a game wich stresses all 4 cores. However,HWMonitor is showing nearer to 80C. The thing is the heatsink is warm to the touch but not scorchingly hot.
Real Temp.

Tj. Max is set at 94C.

Tj. Max is set at 102C.

Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
If it's been limited to 65W and undervolted i'd be very surprised if it was hitting 80c.
OTOH, i wouldn't worry about it and at least you know 80c is the worst case scenario and in all likely hood, it's probably lower.
Does the Xeon have Ht? If it does turning that off will lower temps by about 5c too.
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
The Xeon E3 1220 lacks HT(its basically a Core i5 2400) and also the IGP is fused off too.
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
You could try reseating the cooler too?
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
It is the stock Intel socket 1156 Core i5 750 cooler:

It is the E41759-002 which has the copper base. OK,its not the worlds best cooler, but the height was a concern(the cooler is around 46MM high) and the SB Core i5 do produce less heat than the older ones. I also replaced the TIM with Noctua NHT1.
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
sorry to hijack ur thread cat but one of my fans seems to be in super noisey mode ,does the temps etc look ok here using cpuid hw monitor ?

I've used both Real and Core Temp and had the same results. Now I just use Realtemp set to start on logon.
I'd agree with terbinator - I'd be gobsmacked if you're getting anywhere near 80C.
Re: Real Temp and Core Temp reporting different temperatures from HWMonitor??
Yeah, you are probably right! BTW,are those load temperatures,Taiko and is the CPU overclocked??
