    Re: Pc running slow

Have you checked that it is not clogged up with dust inside? I had one machine which appeared fine on the surface but once I got in there with a torch I found there to be lots of dust between the fins of the main fan on the CPU.

If it's a heating issue you could also run something like CPU-Z to check the core temperatures while resting and under load. You'll find better info elsewhere but anything over 55c resting and 75c load makes me worry.

Also I am not sure the age of your machine but the thermal paste CPU / heat sink may not be doing it's job now.

True, if mine was running hot and there was no dust issue I would re-paste the cpu. Sometimes it can be pads though, no idea about pads |:

    Re: Pc running slow

thanks. ive never heard of cpu-z but I will look into it now. the pc is a few year old now. I will also get a hoover into the case and give it a good clean out.

think its a good excuse for an upgrade

    Re: Pc running slow

Any running processes? Antivirus scans especially.

Windows 8/.1? Google for a drive activity fix (I couldn't find the correct link at the time of posting)

    Not your problem?

    Well:

General computer slowdowns -usually- points to a HDD issue.

Be that you need to defragment

    Reformat

Or in worst case scenario; it's dying.

    Re: Pc running slow

    Try CoreTemp.

Also try to run MalwareBytes and JunkWare Removal Tool.

Once you checked the temperature of the CPU and determined that it is safe (if not, reapply thermal grease) and run the programs mentioned below and you still don't notice a seizable change then check the SSD/HDDs (HDDscan).

If nothing else, reinstall (after you backed up everything).

Task Manager | Start up.. Disable unwanted programs from start up and then restart. And also Follow Bonebraker777's steps too if it still does not resolve.

    Re: Pc running slow

I've found that problems like this can often take longer to diagnose and fix than just doing a reinstall.

If I were you I'd grab all installers and drivers I need, stick them on a separate HDD/partition/memory stick and do a format/install.

    Pc running slow

I dont know if anyone else has experienced this, but over the past week or so, the Wiki has been running unbearably slowly for me. It takes at least a full minute to load a page, if it loads at all. I can load any other websites, including the Forums, just fine. So, has anyone else had issues with this, and, if so, does anyone know what the issue is?

    Re: Pc running slow

If no other sites have trouble, try pinging the specific wiki page to see if it is a connection issue or something more localized.

You can try to post the link to the specific page to see if we have issue as well (because with Wiki in general I don't have any issue at all).

Can always check your allocated space for Temporary Internet Files or try to move your folder elsewhere for testing, or have none at all. See what happens.
