    Laptop periodic dimming

    Hi there,

I have a laptop to fix and there's an issue with the display. It's a HP Pavilion G6 2300 series and running Windows 8. Basically it was dropped a while ago and since then there's a been a line across near the top of the screen which of course suggests a damaged screen. However the screen also dims slightly and then brightens every second or so, like it's on a timer. This is constant and begins as soon as the laptop is turned on.

I have plugged the screen into an external monitor and everything is fine so it's not a GPU issue. I took the screen apart and I can't see an inverter so I presume it's an LED display.

I was wondering if it might be some sort of power issue within the laptop or would replacing the screen do the trick? I don't want to replace the screen if it doesn't solve the periodic dimming issue. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Out of curiosity can you change your power settings to high performance and see if that corrects the issue?
I assume when you took it apart it looked as though the ribbon was ok?

Had a similar issue with a dell not long back, actually turned out to be the AC jack had been damaged and was connecting and losing the AC intermittently.

If it has an ambient light sensor you can also try disabling that via its windows settings or BIOS.

If nothing works you could try replacing the screen with a second hand unit. They are not that hard to replace.

It could be the ambient light sensor also try adjusting the screen brightness and messing with the power settings in windows. If not i second what playerasleep said and just replace the screen.
