Hey guys, ive just build a new computer with (almost) all new components apart from my boot drive (120 GB 840 EVO and my hard drive seagate 1 TB) but my computer wont boot, im wondering if because my old computer had a amd CPU and MOBO if thats causing my new computer from working. Any thoughts?

    Re: new comp (problem)

We need a little more information than that please! What stage of booting are getting up to? Specs. of the new components...Can I assume that because you are saying old AMD cpu you have now changed to an Intel? If you are getting to the point of booting to Windows you will have to either force Windows to redetect your processor & mobo to use the correct drivers or do a clean install of Windows, which I would recommend - Some of the Windows updates can be AMD or Intel specific.

    Hi Mike

It would also be helpful to know if your mobo or case has a speaker built in, and if not if you have one somewhere else with the correct plug.
(speakers on PC mobo are getting rarer)

I don't think you can use the same windows installation since you've changed motherboard.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

If you have a license key then getting a copy of windows onto a usb stick shouldnt be an issue.

    Re: new comp (problem)

From other threads I've read on this forum it depends on what version of Windows you have whether you can reuse it in your new build - either Retail or OEM.

    Re: new comp (problem)

I believe there is a legitimate way of downloading an ISO for Windows 7 if that is what you have.

Do you now know someone that you can borrow an install DVD from?

Or you could try signing up for the Windows 10 preview and install that for now.
