    VGA To DisplayPort?

Hi folks - I now have a Acer XB270HU for my PC. Not a problem - I have a nVidia 980ti. The problem is that my server (a HP microserver N40L) only has a VGA output - my old Dell monitor had VGA AND DVI inputs, but now I need to use mY server! What are my options? I looked on Amazon but can only see adapters than can converted DP to VGA, but not the other way...?

    Re: VGA To DisplayPort?

You need a chip to digitise the analogue signal from VGA, so the adaptor would be quite complex (called active), but you can get them (via HDMI usually) at quite a price.

    Re: VGA To DisplayPort?

    Sounds expensive

These are examples from a quick Google, I haven't used any of them so read up carefully if you are tempted...

Obvious choices are an IP KVM such as: http://store.lantronix.com/product_p/slslp400usb-01.htm

Or a capture card in your main PC: http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com.../dp/B007U5MGBE

Alternatively you could get a small monitor just for the machine. If it is just to get over booting problems to the point you can VNC into the box, you could use a low res device like http://www.amazon.co.uk/800-480-350-.../dp/B00IR5VRS4

Personally I just leave my home server under a TV so that in the slight chance it doesn't boot far enough to remote into then I can use the VGA interface that all modern TVs come with to get the machine booted up.

    Re: VGA To DisplayPort?

It's a server ... so can't you remote into it? SSH if it's running Linux, or Remote Desktop for Windows. Though if you need the BIOS screen that won't work.

Or, fit a graphics card with DP to your Microsever.

The cheapest low profile PCIe DP card I know of is the Nvidia Quadro NVS 295, which can be found on ebay delivered for about £15.

    Re: VGA To DisplayPort?

oH, cheers guys - plenty of options.

Righto, I'll tell you why; originally, the N40L was running Windows 7. Not only was it running a VGA cable to my spare Dell VGA port, but I was running Teamviewer so I could control it from my other Windows PC(s). Fine. Then, I decided to upgrade it to Windows 10, having already upgraded my main PC and my media PC. However, there was a boot problem - and during which I had upgraded my monitor (and sold off my old Dell). So now my server is 'between upgrades' and seems to need some BIOS-level assistance.

DwU, you might have a point there - it might be cheaper to move it (for now) to one of my Samsung LED TVs which have VGA ports!

ISTR that is how I started, after a power cut caused some trouble booting. I left it there, as it was quiet enough and fairly out of the way

I do have to remember to dust/vacuum it occasionally though.
