    8800GT Windows 7 install issues

I recently purchased an 8800GT on here and I have no reason to believe that it doesn't work, however I am having trouble installing it.

Windows shows it as an unknown device and when I use the official installer from nVidia I get errors and the installer says that the graphics driver failed to install. I also tried a previous driver version.

I've tried doing this through device manager too using the browse for files method and it spits out an error at the end simply saying CRC.

I've also tried driver sweeper too to remove all traces of the previous drivers but the previous card was a 7800GT so I don't even think it was necessary to run the sweeper.

It's the family PC so I'm going to run a few scans and see if anything is amiss but other then that I am not too sure what else to do.

The only thing I can think of is the PSU but I can't see why this would cause any issues.
    Any ideas?

Sounds like its the card to me, unless the PSU is VERY VERY VERY bad, even a cheap 400w would get past installing drivers to be honest.

Could be worth checking the hard drive with HD Tune trail, but i bet its the card

Take a screenshot of the SMART tab and post it here

Re: 8800GT Windows 7 install issues

Thanks for the reply, I'm running an error scan now on the HDD but it's fairly new as it was a replacement drive for one that was failing so I tested it when I installed it to make sure it wasn't another dud. I have disconnected and made sure the PCI-E lane was clear and checked the card connector to make sure it was dust free. I've checked the power connector too. I haven't had any GFX related issues yet and the machine has been on for a while.

Dont bother with the error scan, just post the SMART info

Re: 8800GT Windows 7 install issues

    I couldn't find a SMART tab.

I tried putting my previous card in and this issue occurred again so I fear it may no be a card issue, the only problem now is I haven't a clue what's causing it, I'm hoping it's a software issue as I don't want to be swapping hardware out, the computer has been due a wipe for a while now so I'm going to do it tomorrow and see where that gets me.

It's some cheapo 450w PSU, I doubt it's the PSU now too as my original card isn't playing properly now. I'll fiddle around with it tomorrow and report back. Thanks for the input so far tho.
