    No post issue

Hi, new member and the first post comes in the form of a query if anyone can shed some light from possible past experience.

I have a pc to repair from a friend who has the 755-A skt 754 mobo with a 3400,512 of samsung ram. The issue is that the system will not post and display. I have already stripped out system to mb,proc and psu and cannot even get any post beep. Tried kg mem from my own system and still no joy.reseated proc and no change.disconnected all other cabling, ide, floppy and usb headers and still no change. I have been looking at replacing the mb and just want to know if anyone has had similar experience and come to another solution.

Apologies for making my first post rather heavy and i appreciate any and all input.

    Speak again soon.

It does sound rather goosed, I'm afraid. Are you getting any fan spinups when you try powering on? The other thought that occurs is is there any possibility that the board's shorting on any part of the case? Is the PSU working? And has resetting the CMOS via jumper produced any effect?

Reset cmos several times and pulled the battery with no change. All fans are going good and still get a green led on pwr button. Ther user had mentioned previous that the system was running extremely slow and then just died. I've already advised that I'll replace the board for them but am a bit wary incase the cpu turns out to be shot after spending dosh on a new mb, which i think is the problem anyways.

Just noticed from your sys specs that you have an Opt170. Have you got it clocked high ? i have a friend who got his hands on one and managed to get it clocked to 2.8+. Good option for a cheap Fx57.

I haven't done anything ambitious with it yet; I've only OC'ed it to 2.5GHz - that plus the 10x multi made it a good match with the DDR500 - I may do more later. What I would say is that at those clocks, and on the stock heatsink, it tends to idle around 32C and go up to about 45 tops under load, so I'm pretty happy. I'll see how the temps change when the weather starts warming up more too.

Can you try the CPU in the guy's system in another board? at least that way you could eliminate that before you spend the wonga.

    Re: No post issue

You should ask your local hardware vendor if they can test the cpu... might be too old though, they might not have a suitable mobo at hand ;P
