Is pc6400 Backward Compatible with pc3200

    Hi all,

    I just Bought 4gig of memory, Corsair DDR2 Twin2X Pc6400 800mhz, 2 packs of 2 gig.
And Was told i can use it in place of my old memory in 2 of my machines.
So my machines are... Abit IC7-G Running 512k pc3200 400mhz,
    And.. an Asrock 939 SLI - eSAT2 Also Running 512k pc3200 400mhz.

Is this just a standard upgrade ie just stick it in - or will i need to do anything with the bios`s ect.

Any advice welcome, links ect - many thanks.

In a word, no. DDR (which is what your PC3200 is) and DDR2 (the newer stuff) are completely different. DDR2 won't work in your DDR board. Whoever told you otherwise is a charlatan and a fraud, and I'd personally strike them off your Christmas card list.

Well 'asian looking guy from scan' didn't have his head screwed on that day or was rather lagging on some target of some description. Given that DDR currently costs much more than DDR2 I suspect it's the former

Some asrock mobos do support both but having just checked yours doesn't, the RAM is also no good for the IC7-G
