    Antec P182, additional fans?

    I just bought this case.

It has 2 x 120mm fans, one on the top and one on the back.

Im just wondering, there are vents at the front, can any fans be put here:

Id ideally like to have one fan at the front there on one of them two placements. Is it possible?

    Thanks

    Ian

PS. That picture is off the review Hexus did of it. I havent got the case out yet, because its for a new build and im keeping it wrapped up, so havent had the chance to do a detailed inspection.

    Re: Antec P182, additional fans?

there should already be an additional fan in the lower chamber just in front of where the psu will go. you can add one or two more as well though. they'll both go where the upper vent is.you can place one just in front of the upper hdd cage, but its need to be a very slim fan. or you can install a fan on the other side of the cage (nearer to the back) but if you do this then you can't use the cage for hdds anymore. you can add both fans for purekill as well....

    Re: Antec P182, additional fans?

Yeah theres one next to the PSU, but i ideally wanted one on the very front of my case, as i have one there on my Aurora and it does help quite alot lol.

Could you recommend a low profile fan thats good?

Do you have this case, i havent used it yet, its stuck in its box still until i get the rest of my parts. But im impressed with what iv seen of it so far.

    Re: Antec P182, additional fans?

i don't have that exact case, what i do have is the p190 which is just a bigger version of your's. i get two 140mm fans on the top and a 200mm on the side panel, and the case is a bit longer but apart from that the design is the same.

its a very good case, and alot of people like it due to the fact it can keep the insides cool AND also be extremely quiet. you won't need another on in the lower chamber but if you really must then go for a fan in the middle cage at the front (imo it really doesn't need it unless you're going for some insane overclock). apparently sharkoon golf balls and scythe s-flex are good fans. i haven't put a fan in front on the cage so i can't tell you what would fit though with the cage in. so if a fan doesn't fit there then you can either put one on the other side of the cage or take it out completely.

hopefully someone here who has put a fan there and has the cage is in place can recommend one....

    Re: Antec P182, additional fans?

You'll find the case needs modding if you want a standard depth 120mm fan at the front of the lower camber. That being said the middle fan is supposed to create enough draft to keep both the hard drives happy and the the PSU which I can report after about a year, it does with mine

Hard Drive temps are always good and the PSU always stays nice and quiet (WD AAKS and corsair 520w HX).

Unless you are putting 3 HDD's down there I wouldn't worry too much about it.

You can use two fans on the upper HDD cage. One clips to the front of it, and the other sits at the front of the case (behind the HDD cage) this genereates some seriously good gfx cooling (but you loose the ability to put HDD's in that tray).

    Re: Antec P182, additional fans?

    Sounds good.

Im going to have two HDDs so il use the bottom cage, and use the top cage to mount some fans on, for..as you said, graphics cooling.

Im going to be getting an XFX 8800GT the top spec one (well 2nd top, the XXX edition is faster).

    Re: Antec P182, additional fans?

Here's a quick guide to P180/P182 fan mounting that I put up on another forum a while ago.
    HTH.

    A) NOT POSSIBLE if HDDs fitted to upper cage.
Mounting is via wire clips (included with case).

    B) POSSIBLE if HDDs fitted to upper cage.
This is the default mounting (via the plastic bracket).
Bracket can be removed for direct fitting to the case using screws/other fan mounts.

    C) POSSIBLE if HDDs fitted to lower cage.
This is the default mounting (via the plastic bracket).
Bracket can be removed for direct fitting to the case using screws/other fan mounts.

    D) POSSIBLE if HDDs fitted to lower cage (though HDD cables will be close to fan. Recommend using a wire fan grill/guard).
The pre-fitted bracket must be removed allowing for direct fitting to the case using screws/other fan mounts.
[NOTE - If you require fans in both the C AND D locations then some case modification is required.]

    E) POSSIBLE if HDDs fitted to lower cage.
Case must be modified to accommodate fan mounting here.

    Re: Antec P182, additional fans?

Just got one of these, and liking it a lot. Watch out with putting a fan at A (above), it's only possible if your graphics card is short enough. I've got a 9800GTX, and I had to remove one of the hard drive trays from the top cage to fit it in, and definitely no space for a fan.

I did have a fan at B when I first put it together, but it was a bit too loud for my tastes (wanting near silence) and I didn't really need it. I've now achieved my quietness goal by shifting the fan onto a new Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120, replacing the stock heatsink. Well worth it, under light loads the computer gets drowned out by the slightest ambient noise.
If you can't keep up, stick with reality...
