    It does make sense, but it's going to encourage socket overloading (something I'm guilty of anyway).

    It's a pretty genius design but I've got no idea why a student would put their work online for all the big manfacturers to copy!

    Because of the fact that he has it online and so many people have seen it he can quite easily prove that they copied his design without the expense of the patent

    Actually, most products don't pull anywhere near enough power for 3 to overload a 13amp socket - the main problem with multi-adaptors is the plug-in type that take 2 or 3 big plugs: the extra weight pulls the pins away from their contacts and creates a greater risk of arcing. As long as each device pulls no more than 4.3A (or to put it another way about 1KW) there's no problem with a 3 way adaptor...
